Cargo transportation in Mexico faces a complex environment. In the second quarter of 2025 , 82% of incidents were committed with violence , and 65% occurred while the vehicles were moving, according to Overhaul ‘s August report .
Puebla and the State of Mexico accounted for 43.5% of the national incidence, highlighting the vulnerability of the main logistics corridors.
Given this scenario, technology becomes a strategic ally . Samsara closed 2024 with the launch of 10 Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based products designed to improve fleet safety and efficiency, Jorge Puente, Sales Director of Samsara Mexico, explained to T21.
Among them is the AI Multicam System , which installs eight cameras to cover both the interior and exterior of the unit in 360°, with the ability to detect events and send real-time alerts to monitoring centers.
The Mexican market has also spawned its own developments, Puente commented. The engine immobilizer was developed in Mexico, designed to respond to local security risks . Upon detecting a critical event, the unit is locked and prevents further movement. The product has already begun to be marketed in other countries as an example of innovation with global impact, Puente emphasized.
Beyond the technology, the human element remains central. Puente said these tools give confidence to operators and their families. In some cases, video recordings have served to demonstrate that operators complied with safety regulations , exonerating them in accidents.
The shortage of operators is also a challenge for the industry. In 2024 alone, the International Road Transport Union (IRU) estimated a shortage of 99,000 job openings in Mexico .
In this context, the priority cannot be limited to protecting cargo: it must extend to caring for operators, who are key to the continuity of operations, Puente emphasized.
In an environment marked by insecurity and a lack of operators, AI is an everyday resource. Samsara fits into that dynamic with solutions that seek security and trust for those who drive the country, Puente concluded.
