T21.com.mx, 25 years moving to the rhythm of the industry

What began as a commitment to providing information more quickly evolved into a platform that has accompanied the major transformations in transportation, logistics, and international trade in Mexico.

Industries are usually measured in tons, containers, tractor-trailers, ships, or investments. Journalism , on the other hand, is measured by something much less tangible: the ability to help understand a reality that never stops changing.

Twenty-five years ago, when the internet was just beginning to transform how information circulated, Grupo T21 understood that transportation and logistics in Mexico were already moving at a different pace. T21 magazine, launched in 1999, had found a niche among business owners and executives in the sector, but the industry’s evolution soon made it clear that a monthly publication was no longer enough.

“We soon realized that the sector was so dynamic in its evolution that a monthly edition was too distant to communicate things that were emerging and evolving on a daily basis,” recalls Osiel Cruz, CEO and founder of Grupo T21.

In that context , on July 3, 2001, T21.com.mx was born , a portal specializing in logistics, transportation, supply chains, business, and economics that found in the Internet the opportunity to provide information with the same agility demanded by an industry driven by just-in-time production. “The T21 news portal came to fill an information need within an industry that was booming, and, adhering to just-in-time principles , we also had to adapt to the industry,” he summarizes.

Since then, the sector has changed time and again. Mexico consolidated its role in international trade, ports increased their capacity, intermodal transport went from being a promise to a strategic alternative, e-commerce transformed supply chains, a pandemic tested global logistics, and nearshoring reshaped the economic conversation. Today, artificial intelligence is once again changing the rules of the game.

Throughout its history, Grupo T21’s purpose has never been solely to inform. It has also sought to connect with those who build this industry . From this vision emerged projects that are now part of its editorial identity, such as the Top 100 Trucking Industry (launched in 2007), the 100+ Influential Figures in Transportation and Logistics in Mexico (2007), the 21 Young Professionals of T21 (2009), and, more recently, the Top Freight Forwarders (2026). These initiatives are accompanied by events such as the Transportation Awards, the 100+ awards, the Transportation and Logistics Meeting (ETYL) – in its Monterrey and Cali-Baja editions – Conexión 21 , and the Freight Forwarder Awards . All of these initiatives share the same conviction: an industry grows more when it shares knowledge, recognizes talent, and strengthens its collaborative networks.

Over time, many of these initiatives found an echo in other specialized media outlets . More than a coincidence, this demonstrates how good ideas can enrich the conversation within an entire sector and contribute to strengthening niche journalism.

Innovation hasn’t stopped in the technological realm either. Just as the internet represented a new way to bring news to readers a quarter of a century ago, today T21 incorporates artificial intelligence through a virtual assistant that facilitates the search and classification of information, in addition to T21 Player , a tool that allows users to listen to each article in audio format. The technology has changed; the purpose remains. This evolution has allowed T21 to build a community of around 160,000 monthly readers and more than 150,000 followers on LinkedIn, Facebook, X, and Instagram.

Twenty-five years ago, the challenge was delivering information just in time . Today, the challenge is different. In an era where anyone can publish content and artificial intelligence accelerates information production, the real value lies in providing context, verifying facts, connecting the dots , and helping to understand where the industry is headed.

Because goods will continue to cross borders, ports will continue to expand, algorithms will increasingly make decisions, and logistics will continue to reinvent itself. What will hardly change is the need for specialized journalism that accompanies this transformation with independence, rigor, and vision.

That was the commitment that gave rise to T21.com.mx 25 years ago . And it is also the one that will continue to guide the course for years to come.
