The need to train and professionalize more heavy vehicle operators keeps training as one of the main challenges for the federal trucking industry . Faced with this situation, industry organizations have added a new alternative to expand the tools available for driver preparation.

Airports and Auxiliary Services (ASA) and the General Directorate of Federal Motor Transport (DGAF) signed collaboration agreements that will allow them to take advantage of the infrastructure and specialized programs of the International Center for Instruction of Airports and Auxiliary Services (CIIASA) for the training and updating of federal motor transport operators.

Representatives from the National Chamber of Freight Transportation (Canacar) , the National Chamber of Passenger and Tourism Transportation (Canapat), and the National Association of Private Transportation (ANTP) participated in the signing . These organizations announced the agreement through their social media networks and highlighted the importance of strengthening the training of human capital to advance the safety and professionalization of the sector.

For the freight trucking industry, the agreement comes as the availability of drivers continues to strain operations. Canacar has estimated the national shortage at around 96,000 drivers , a situation that has led the sector to promote schools, specialized centers, and partnerships with educational institutions to expand the training of new drivers.

Infrastructure for freight and passenger transport

With the new scheme, companies affiliated with Canapat will be able to access CIIASA’s infrastructure and specialized programs to strengthen the continuous training of passenger transport drivers.

“Strengthening the training of our drivers is strengthening passenger transport,” Canapat stated on its social media.

For its part, Canacar highlighted that ASA’s experience and CIIASA’s infrastructure will strengthen the training of operators and raise the level of talent required by the freight transport industry.

The ANTP stated that the agreement represents an opportunity to promote training and professionalization, placing human capital as one of the components to maintain safer and more efficient logistics and transportation operations.

The CIIASA, named “Engineer Roberto Kobeh González”, has infrastructure intended for specialized technical training and during 2026 includes in its offer activities related to certification in road transport and freight service.

The signing was attended by Tania Carro Toledo, Undersecretary of Communications and Transportation of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) ; Luis Ruiz Hernández, Director General of Federal Motor Transport; and Carlos Manuel Merino Campos, Director General of ASA, as well as representatives of business organizations in the sector.

The agreement thus expands the training options available for the road transport sector , at a time when attracting new operators is not the only challenge: so is ensuring that those who join and those already behind the wheel have continuous training to meet the operational and safety demands of the sector.

During its Board of Directors session, the Confederation of Industrial Chambers of the United Mexican States (Concamin) appointed Miguel Ángel Bres García as president of the Security Commission.

Bres García has over 35 years of experience in freight transportation, logistics, and corporate governance. He is currently Vice President for the Bajío Region of the National Chamber of Freight Transportation (Canacar) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of B&G Capital Group, whose portfolio includes TDR Transportes , CFS Servicios Financieros, CONVOY 360, INTRA RH, MPV 360, and VESLO.

In his new role at Concamin, he will incorporate his experience in the trucking industry into the analysis of the risks facing the industry and the strengthening of security in supply chains.

The appointment was made prior to the Concamin Board of Directors meeting, headed by its president, Alejandro Malagón Barragán , and the general secretary, Eduardo Ramírez Leal , during the presentation of the reports and the update of the working committees.

The National Chamber of Freight Transportation (Canacar) and Volkswagen Truck & Bus Mexico signed a collaboration agreement that seeks to strengthen the competitiveness of transport companies through preferential conditions for the acquisition of units , spare parts and after-sales solutions aimed at the members of the Chamber.

The signing took place at the Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus (VWCO) plant in Resende, Brazil, as part of VW Experience 2026 , an event organized by the automaker to showcase the brand’s operations, technology, and strategy to its customers.

The agreement was signed by Augusto Ramos , national president of Canacar, and Roberto Cortes , president and CEO of VWCO, accompanied by Ricardo Alouche , vice president of Sales, Marketing and After Sales of the automaker, as well as executives of the operation in Mexico.

Also present were Rafael Santos Magalhães , CEO for Volkswagen Trucks and Buses in Mexico, as well as Giovanni Juárez , the firm’s commercial director.

The National Chamber of Freight Transportation (Canacar) emerged on September 29, 1989 , and in 2026 it will reach 37 years of history , during which 12 presidents have led the organization that represents the interests of an activity that concentrates between 3.2% and 3.8% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Under different circumstances, the challenges faced by the various presidents of Canacar have been a constant: insecurity, growth in the industry, a shortage of operators, corruption, overregulation, among others. For Augusto Ramos Melo, president of Canacar, the difference lies in achieving constant change.

After the first 100 days of the campaign, which aimed to secure the commitment of all members of the Board of Directors in their positions, “after an intense period of political activity and meetings, we are now entering a more strategic phase focused on solving priority problems ,” Augusto Ramos told T21.

Insecurity, the burden

The Overhaul report indicates that 82% of the crimes faced by the trucking industry occur in 10 states of Mexico . The State of Mexico and Puebla alone account for 32% of these crimes.

The review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) , nearshoring (relocation of production lines), and the integration of supply chains place trucking and customs at the center of North American competitiveness; however, to take advantage of this scenario, Mexico must resolve challenges in infrastructure, security, digitalization, and trade facilitation.

During the Mexico’s Nearshoring & Logistics Auto Industry Summit, Manuel Sotelo Suárez, deputy secretary general of the National Chamber of Freight Transportation (Canacar) , highlighted that road transport not only moves goods, but also sustains the operation of manufacturing plants, investments and jobs .

In that context, he said that reliability in logistics chains will be one of the main factors for Mexico to continue attracting nearshoring -related projects .

In a context where around 80% of trade between Mexico, the United States and Canada moves by land transport , and 73.6% of the value of trade between Mexico and the United States crosses by road , road transport has become an essential component for the automotive industry.

However, Sotelo warned that the nearshoring opportunity can only be consolidated if the country improves its road infrastructure, security, operator training, process digitization, and greater coordination between authorities, customs, companies, and carriers.

“It’s not about relaxing controls, but about making them smarter, more coordinated, and supported by technology. We don’t need more friction. This efficiency is primarily linked to digitalization. Digitalization will be one of the most important changes in transportation and customs. Artificial intelligence will help to plan routes and anticipate risks,” he pointed out.

He believed that the movement of goods at the border must evolve from bottlenecks to competitiveness platforms through intelligent and technology-supported processes.

“ The border should be a competitive advantage . Greater efficiency means less downtime, which gives us lower costs, greater peace of mind, fewer emissions, and more confidence to invest,” he explained.

Among the priorities for 2035, Sotelo highlighted strategic corridors, greater exchange of information between the private sector and the authorities, as well as strengthening logistical security to lower costs and improve the reliability of supply chains.

For his part, Fernando Ramos, founder and president of the Latin American Confederation of Customs Agents (CLAA) , emphasized that Mexican customs is facing a transformation that goes beyond tax collection. From his perspective, it must fulfill the functions of collecting, controlling, and facilitating foreign trade, without limiting the country’s competitiveness .

“Tax revenue is important in a country like Mexico, but so is growth. If customs doesn’t facilitate trade, the country doesn’t grow. When there are frictions at customs, when there are problems of interpretation between importers and the customs authority or between us customs agents and customs brokers, that problem becomes logistical chaos and a reputational problem,” he explained.

The specialist explained that the coexistence of different authorities and the fragmentation of functions create operational challenges that affect the efficiency of goods dispatch.

“Today we have a serious problem, because although the ANAM (National Customs Agency of Mexico) was created , the SAT (Tax Administration Service) has not stopped participating; on the contrary, with the reform that came into effect on January 1 (2026), the SAT now has even stronger power. But there are the military and civilians, and now there is a third participant, the famous Digital Transformation and Technology Agency, and the confrontation between these three agencies; the challenge is how to govern in the best way, because what we have today is fragmentation ,” he explained.

Ramos emphasized that digital transformation is essential to boosting the competitiveness of foreign trade, but cautioned that technology alone will not solve the problems without institutional coordination and clear rules for importers, customs brokers, and authorities. He also noted that delays at border crossings and ports generate additional costs that directly impact supply chains in sectors such as automotive.

Regarding the review of the USMCA, he maintained that the treaty should promote performance standards for customs, prioritizing speed, transparency, predictability, and trade facilitation . In his view, regional competitiveness will depend on customs processes allowing for the timely flow of inputs and goods.

It’s worth noting that on July 1st, the United States decided not to extend the treaty in its current form for an additional 16 years. The agreement remains in effect until 2036, but under a system of annual reviews that prevents planning long-term investments under stable rules.

The panel explained that transportation efficiency, digitalization, security, and trade facilitation are all part of the same equation for maintaining North American productive integration and taking advantage of the opportunities arising from nearshoring and the USMCA.

TIJUANA, BC – The asphalt once again became a test of precision, concentration, and pride. During an intense day, Tijuana brought together drivers, families, companies, and authorities around a common goal: to recognize the talent of those who keep Mexican trucking moving every day .

The fifth edition of MT Mexico Northwest brought together 62 Sleeper Cab category operators , who tested their driving skills in front of hundreds of attendees who, from early on, filled the stands with cheers, applause and the support of their families.

Beyond the stopwatch, MT Mexico has found in Tijuana a strategic location to promote the professionalization and empowerment of truck drivers . After Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, the city where the project originated in 2020, the northern border city has solidified its position as the second location in the national circuit, a choice that reflects the importance of trucking in trade between Mexico and the United States.

During the opening ceremony, the mayor of Tijuana, Abdiel Gutiérrez Coronado , highlighted the importance of trucking as a strategic activity for the economic development of the region and acknowledged that competitions like MT México strengthen the professionalization of those who daily transport the goods that supply the country.

After more than eight hours of competition, the winners of the MT Mexico Northwest 2026 were determined :

First place: José Manuel Domínguez , from Express Service Transport (EST) , with a time of 1 minute, 47 seconds and 3 thousandths.

Second place: Juan Manuel Del Val , from Del Val Trucking, with 1 minute, 48 seconds and 19 thousandths

Third place: Mario Quijada , from Transmex , with 1 minute, 53 seconds and 5 thousandths.

In addition to the podium finish, the following operators also earned their place in the MT Mexico 2027 National Final , which will be held in Tampico, Tamaulipas:

Fourth place: Bernardo Hernández , from Transmex, with a time of 1 minute, 55 seconds and 59 thousandths.

Fifth place: José Ángel Avilés , from JA Logistics, with 1 minute, 56 seconds and 99 thousandths.

Sixth place: Gerardo Sánchez Rivera , from Agramont , with a time of 2 minutes, 2 seconds and 73 thousandths.

In this way, the six best times in the competition will represent Tijuana in the MT Mexico 2027 National Final .

Reducing accidents in the freight transport sector will no longer depend solely on reacting after an accident or theft. With this vision, the National Chamber of Freight Transport (Canacar) , Quálitas , and Grupo Innovazione signed a collaboration agreement to launch the National Safe Fleets Program , an initiative that focuses on prevention through data analysis, technology, and training.

According to Quálitas’ financial report for the first half of 2026 , the theft of insured vehicles decreased by 15.3% for the company, while it recovered 49.4% of the stolen units.

However, on Mexican highways, the trucking industry faces a reality that impacts drivers daily . Insecurity remains one of the sector’s main challenges. According to the survey “Impact of Insecurity on Freight Transportation in Mexico ,” conducted by T21 Business Intelligence , all surveyed companies were victims of at least one robbery during the first quarter of 2026 , while the perception of insecurity reached 8.65 out of 10. Half reported more than six robberies , and another 45% suffered between two and five incidents , evidence that crime has become a persistent factor impacting the daily operations of trucking companies.

Augusto Ramos, president of Canacar, explained that around 30% of cargo thefts are concentrated in the State of Mexico and another 15% in Puebla , so almost half of these crimes occur in a specific area of ​​the country, where this organization maintains permanent working groups with federal and state authorities to strengthen prevention strategies.

Given this situation, the strategy seeks to shift from the traditional claims handling model to one focused on prevention, with the goal of reducing accidents, thefts, operational losses, and disruptions to supply chains. To achieve this, it will leverage the experience of the insurance sector, operational knowledge of the trucking industry, and data intelligence tools.

During the signing of the agreement, Augusto Ramos pointed out that the alliance is part of Canacar’s strategy to strengthen the sector’s competitiveness through professionalization and better risk management.

“Reducing risks means fewer fatalities, lowering the number of deaths in accidents, and that is the main thing: protecting the lives of everyone who travels day and night on our country’s roads,” he stated.

He explained that the program will not only be aimed at operators , but also at monitoring personnel, human resources and operational areas of companies, with the purpose of strengthening prevention from the recruitment process and throughout the entire logistics operation.

One of the program’s distinguishing features will be its tailored support plans, offering services based on the size of each transportation company. It includes four levels of participation: micro, small, medium, and large enterprises, with tools adapted to the needs and maturity level of each organization in risk management.

José Antonio Correa Etchegaray, president of the Board of Directors of Quálitas, highlighted that this model will allow prevention capabilities to be brought even to micro-enterprises , which usually have fewer resources to implement this type of strategy.

“Everyone should benefit, particularly micro-enterprises. Through Canacar, we will surely be able to raise standards and build a better Mexico,” he emphasized.

As part of the agreement, Canacar will promote the program among its members; Quálitas will contribute its experience in insurance, actuarial analysis and risk management; while Grupo Innovazione will act as technical operator, developing diagnostic models, evaluation, data intelligence and indicator monitoring.

Fernando Yair Valero Garibay, general manager of Grupo Innovazione, explained that the objective will be to transform the available information into concrete actions that will reduce accident rates.

“The great challenge we have is to turn data into decisions and prevention into profitability for companies,” he pointed out.

The National Safe Fleet Program includes comprehensive diagnostics for companies, fleet risk rating models, actuarial segmentation, evaluation of logistics corridors, permanent training programs, performance indicators, data analytics, and results measurement.

He explained that the analysis will not be limited to thefts, but will incorporate historical information on rollovers, run-off-road accidents, and collisions so that companies can adjust their operating protocols before an incident occurs.

In this regard, the program will begin with a pilot phase among companies affiliated with Canacar. Subsequently, based on the results obtained, a national expansion strategy will be defined, which will include the creation of the National Fleet Risk Index and a recognition program for companies that adopt best practices in safety and risk management.

CANCUN, Q. ROO.- Deficient infrastructure, high logistics costs, regulatory delays and security problems continue to be the main obstacles to the competitiveness of freight transport and logistics in Mexico.

Faced with this reality, while the adversities are identified, within the framework of the National Freight Transport Forum , organized by the  National Association of Private Transport (ANTP) , Alex Theissen, president of the Board of Directors of the organization, asserted that within the work carried out in the different panels of the 26th edition of this event, the constant was to talk about progress, improvement, even in how to face the free trade agreements, “in general we all agree that those of us involved in this industry have to learn, as the theme of this forum says, to be more resilient . “

Customs and technology at a slow pace

Customs facilitation is one of the priority areas identified. Mexico exports hundreds of millions of tons of products each year and depends heavily on the efficiency of its border crossings and foreign trade processes. However, there are still ample opportunities to incorporate technology, simplify procedures, and expedite customs operations.

Reflecting the existing challenges, Mexico’s unfavorable positions in various international competitiveness indicators were mentioned, particularly in infrastructure, international trade, and economic performance .

Augusto Ramos pointed out that modernizing customs and reducing processing times is an essential requirement to fully take advantage of the opportunities arising from trade integration with the United States and Canada.

Factors such as the above cause logistics costs in Mexico to reach up to 20% , while in developed markets they are between 8% and 10% of the value of the goods.

This percentage is compounded by multiple factors: insufficient infrastructure, congestion, complex regulatory processes, insecurity, and downtime during journeys.

Addressing the above becomes even more relevant when Mexico participates in a trade region that accounts for 30% of global trade. “The region represents 1.6 trillion dollars and serves 515 million consumers, and every minute three million dollars are spent in this negotiation between the three countries,” highlighted Alejandro Malagón, president of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers (Concamin) .

El cargo “Logistics continues to develop, even with multifactorial challenges”: Theissen apareció primero en T21.

Based on figures from the  Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP) , between January and May 2026 , 2,255 cargo truck robberies were recorded, which represented a decrease of 17% compared to the 2,707 cases reported in the same period of 2025.

The tool emerged from situations that operators and companies report repeatedly , but which in many cases are not formally reported .

The director noted that authorities frequently request complaints in order to take action; however, many victims prefer not to file reports for fear of retaliation or due to distrust in the processes.

“If there are no complaints, I can’t offer you any kind of support because we don’t have that information,” Sánchez Porras commented, referring to one of the main challenges in assessing the scope of the problems facing the sector.

In response to this situation, Canacar Protege emerged, a tool available on its portal that allows complaints to be filed confidentially without requesting personal data from the complainant.

Augusto Ramos Melo, national president of Canacar, explained that the system is part of the organization’s strategy to strengthen the defense of the rights of carriers and generate information that allows the identification of risk patterns on the country’s highways .

“This mechanism was created to ensure that the operator, the carrier, or the company does not feel vulnerable to retaliation when filing a complaint,” Ramos explained.

Unlike a conventional complaint, the system was designed to protect the identity of the person reporting the incident. The platform only requests information related to the reported events, without requiring personal data.

According to Sánchez Porras, the cases will be referred to the appropriate authorities depending on their nature. In cases involving potential acts of corruption, the information may be sent to internal control bodies; while incidents with potential criminal implications may be referred to the competent prosecutorial authorities.

The platform is also part of the institutional modernization strategy promoted by the current administration of Canacar, which includes a greater generation of statistics and its own information systems to support the proposals and positions of the organization before federal authorities.

The tool is aimed at carriers affiliated with Canacar. Sánchez Porras indicated that the data generated through the platform will allow for a more precise understanding of the problems faced by its members on the road.

In his report on his first 100 days as head of Canacar, published on June 17, Augusto Ramos stated that the organization handled over a thousand calls through its support and assistance mechanisms, 45% of which were related to state, federal, or municipal traffic stops. An additional 342 incidents related to theft were also reported; of these, 59 resulted in the recovery of stolen vehicles.

One hundred days after assuming the presidency of the National Chamber of Freight Transportation (Canacar) , Augusto Ramos Melo presented a work plan focused on four pillars: economic development, security, human capital, and institutional transformation , with the aim of strengthening the sector’s competitiveness and addressing the main challenges faced by carriers and operators in Mexico.

During his message, the leader stressed that freight transport moves more than 80% of the goods in the country and nearly 70% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) linked to products from sectors such as hydrocarbons, commerce, agriculture, agro-industry, mining and construction, making its operation strategic for the national economy.

“When the trucking industry advances, the national economy advances,” said Ramos Melo, who pointed out that these first 100 days are not enough to solve the challenges of the sector, but they are enough to define priorities and establish a work plan.

One of the main topics addressed was highway security . Based on figures from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP) , between January and May 2016, 2,255 cargo truck robberies were recorded, a 17% decrease compared to the 2,707 cases reported during the same period in 2015. However, executives from Canacar (National Chamber of Freight Transportation) pointed out that there is a gap between official figures and the conditions reported by truckers on the highways, as many cases are not formally reported . In this context, Ramos warned that the statistical reduction is insufficient due to the persistent level of violence in these crimes.

Of the total robberies recorded in the first five months of the year, 1,289 involved violence and 966 did not. “We cannot normalize the loss of life on our roads. Every driver deserves to return home safely,” he stated.

The official explained that 93% of robberies are concentrated in 10 states : Mexico State, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Jalisco, Querétaro, Tlaxcala, Veracruz, and Hidalgo. Mexico State alone accounts for 30% of the incidents, followed by Puebla with 15%.

Regarding the type of merchandise , Canacar identified that 57% of the stolen products correspond to hydrocarbons, medicines, medical supplies, cleaning products, chemicals and footwear; while 32% correspond to food and groceries.

Given this situation, the agency reported that it has reinforced its 24-hour call center and launched an alert and assistance center for victims of crime on highways, with the purpose of providing support to affiliated companies and operators.

In its first 100 days, the agency handled over a thousand calls, 45% of which were related to state, federal, or municipal traffic stops. It also received 342 reports of theft, 59 of which resulted in the recovery of stolen goods.

Ramos Melo noted that Canacar participates in working groups with federal and state authorities , in addition to collaborating with the National Guard and prosecutors’ offices. However, he insisted on the need for more decisive action , a greater security presence in high-crime areas, and investigations to combat criminal groups.

“Security cannot be measured solely in numbers; it must be measured in lives protected,” he emphasized.

Another commitment of the administration is to promote safe, comprehensive rest stops . Ramos recalled that during his inauguration he set a goal of establishing 30 such rest stops in his first year in office. One hundred days into his term, he reported that 10 projects have been approved and have already received a favorable technical opinion from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) , in addition to other applications currently being processed.

The leader explained that this infrastructure is necessary to reduce risks associated with fatigue, improve rest conditions for operators, and strengthen the security of supply chains.

In terms of human capital , the agency is also working on programs to incorporate women into the trucking industry. Ramos indicated that, according to SICT data, of the 711,000 federal licenses registered in the first half of 2026, only 1% belong to women.

The National Chamber of Freight Transportation (Canacar) is collaborating with the German agency GIZ and automotive manufacturers to promote scholarships and training for female truck drivers. Claudia Sánchez Porras, Canacar’s general director, explained that the program will begin with groups of 15 to 20 women, with company support to directly monitor their training and operations.

Canacar is also looking to recruit Spanish-speaking Latin American migrants in Mexico who are seeking employment. While Ramos clarified that they don’t yet have an official count of how many migrants have joined the driving force, he noted that they are already working on integrating them through training centers, including one recently opened in Puebla.

In terms of vehicle renewal , the agency supported the heavy vehicle replacement and modernization program promoted under the Mexico Plan , administered by the SICT and Nacional Financiera (Nafin) . The program includes 70% shared guarantees for new and used vehicles, aimed at micro and small transport operators with fleets of one to 30 units.

Ramos explained that the loans can be for up to 15 million pesos (MXN), with terms of up to 84 months for new vehicles and up to 60 months for used vehicles. The minimum down payment will be 10% for new vehicles and 15% for used vehicles.

The leader noted that the average age of the fleet in Mexico is 19 years , a figure he considered alarming compared to other markets. He indicated that, to approach international standards, approximately 50% of the fleet would need to be renewed.

In this context, Canacar is also working with federal authorities on a program to destroy scrap vehicles and on measures to curb the importation of used vehicles that, according to Ramos, do not have the proper configurations to operate in Mexico. He added that, together with the industry, they are seeking a minimum tariff of 50 percent for these imported vehicles .

Regarding operating costs, Ramos reported that the national freight transport sector incurred an additional expense of 22.015 billion pesos in 2025 due to the increase in fuel prices. He emphasized that diesel continues to be one of the main components of the sector’s cost structure.

Although he acknowledged that the impact in Mexico was less than that observed worldwide, where the increase reached up to 20%, he highlighted the importance of the incentives for the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS) and the efforts to keep the price of diesel below 27 pesos per liter.

Furthermore, he warned that the sector requires certainty in the supply of ultra-low sulfur diesel , essential for units with recent technologies and to contribute to the reduction of polluting emissions.

In terms of infrastructure , Canacar identified shortcomings in the conservation and maintenance of state, municipal, and toll-free federal highways. Ramos noted that the 2025-2030 National Development Plan and the sectoral plan acknowledge that only one-third of the toll-free federal highway network is in optimal condition, with a goal of raising this figure to 80% by 2030.

The president of Canacar pointed out that the physical condition of the roads directly impacts operating costs, road safety, and logistical efficiency . While in other countries logistics costs represent between 8% and 10% of the value of goods, in Mexico they can reach up to 20%.

Canacar is also working on mapping sections with the greatest infrastructure problems , supported by information from operators and carriers, with the aim of generating technical data that will allow prioritizing investments.

In ports and customs facilities , Ramos explained that an average of 15,000 operators face excessive waiting times daily at the country’s main logistics points, often under hot conditions, lack of rest areas and absence of basic services.

At the northern border, he asserted that around 19,000 crossings are registered daily, but the inspections and lines have generated delays that, at critical times, reach more than 20 kilometers.

Canacar is maintaining contact with Texas DOT to build a binational, data-driven scheme that will improve the flow of goods and protect the integrity of operators.

Regarding the Maya Train , Ramos reported that a first test run to transport cargo on the rail lines will take place in August, with the goal of beginning passenger and freight traffic simultaneously by the end of this year or the beginning of next year. He explained that the trucking industry sees an opportunity to participate in last-mile delivery , primarily in the transport of hydrocarbons, food, and supplies to areas such as Cancún and the Port of Progreso.

Regarding the 40-hour workweek , Canacar (the National Chamber of Freight Transportation) believes that the trucking industry requires special consideration due to the nature of its operations. Ramos indicated that, although NOM -087 ( the Mexican Official Standard for Driving and Rest Times) exists, the sector needs safe infrastructure where drivers can take breaks.

“Fifty percent of robberies occur when we stop to eat, use the restroom, or sleep,” he warned. He insisted that safe rest stops are impossible without adequate rest areas.

Regulation, data and institutional strengthening

Regarding regulations, Canacar expressed its concern about the new traffic regulations that expand the National Guard’s supervisory and enforcement powers. It noted that the sector was not consulted during their drafting. Ramos said the chamber is working on a technical report to assess the impact of these provisions and to establish working groups with federal authorities.

The agency is also collaborating with the SICT on the new towing regulations, with the goal of improving service quality, establishing clear rules, and combating excessive charges. It also announced the availability of a hotline for reporting abuses.

In its institutional transformation , Canacar launched tools such as Canacar 360, Canacar Integra and Canacar Data, aimed at improving internal management, tracking requests, managing member information and building its own statistics for decision-making.

During its first 100 days, Canacar reported 104 institutional meetings and working sessions with authorities, legislators, trade organizations, and agencies such as the SICT, the Ministry of Economy , the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) , the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), and the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM) . It also held 29 meetings of specialized commissions and committees, signed new collaboration agreements, offered 12 training courses, and provided instruction to 1,626 people.

Among the recent agreements, he mentioned collaborations with Cummins , Samsara , Daimler , PASE , Solvento and the National Association of Vehicle Tracking and Protection Companies (ANERPV) , in addition to alliances such as with the Mexican Transportation Institute (IMT) , the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) to strengthen the generation of data, technical diagnoses and sectoral information.

“What is not measured cannot be improved,” he argued.

At the close, the president of Canacar assured that these first 100 days represent only the first step of a work path that demands unity and results for the sector.

“Because when trucking advances, the national economy advances,” he stated.
