Although it showed a slowdown compared to previous months, the construction industry in Mexico maintained its growth streak in June 2026 , according to the results of the National Survey of Construction Companies (ENEC) of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

In the sixth month of the year, on a monthly basis, the production value of construction companies registered an increase of 0.1% , while in its annual comparison it grew 6.9 percent.

During the period, construction- related works  increased by 1 percent.  Water, irrigation, and sanitation works  increased by 1.8 percent.

Transportation projects  fell 6.5%, following the recovery they had experienced last May. This category includes railway projects such as the construction of the Querétaro-Saltillo passenger train, for which the  Agency for Trains and Integrated Public Transportation (ATTRAPI) has already launched tenders for sections 1 and 2.

According to the Inegi report, the number of people employed  in the construction sector in the country rose 0.1% monthly and 0.9% annually.

Hours  worked  showed positive performance in June 2026. This item showed an increase of 0.6% on a monthly basis and 1% annually, reflecting progress in this indicator.

Meanwhile,  average real wages  showed mixed performance, with a 0.5% decline on a monthly basis and a 2.2% increase on an annual basis, which improved the income of construction workers.

Public sector works grew  32.6 % in June 2026  compared to the same month last year, marking six months of increases after 20 consecutive contractions .

It is worth remembering that the federal government presented an infrastructure plan that includes  5.6 trillion pesos of public and mixed investment between 2026 and 2030  for various infrastructure projects.

Meanwhile, the value of production in the private sector  fell 1.6 percent year-on-year, marking eight consecutive months of decline.

The ENEC results show that public investment has remained a strong driver of the construction sector, with projects stemming from the Mexico Plan , which seeks to consolidate an infrastructure network to attract investment, especially through the construction of industrial parks.

Other investment projects include airports, as well as the expansion of the country’s road network with the modernization of 802 kilometers.
