In a sector where efficiency and sustainability are key, Grupo Bimbo is redefining the rules of the game , which led to the largest bakery in the world being awarded the Silver Container, a recognition given by the Mexican Association of Intermodal Transport (AMTI) to companies that drive progress in this industry.
This award is no coincidence. In recent years, Bimbo has been committed to making a transition towards intermodal transport , a solution that integrates different modes of transport such as rail and land.
The goal was not only to improve logistics, but to transform its environmental impact. “Sustainability was our priority from the beginning. We ventured into intermodal because we wanted to do things differently, innovate and add value to the company,” said Wilberth Ortiz, the company’s vice president of Supply Chain.
The transition was not easy. Ortiz recalls how they started practically from scratch in this modality. Today, Bimbo manages its own fleet, which includes more than 700 tractors, 1,600 trailers and a growing number of containers and chassis designed for intermodality.
“We went from relying on logistics partners to operating our own assets. This allowed us to have control over the process and maximize profits,” explains Ortiz.
