After the drop at the start of the year, customs revenue in Mexico recovered its pace in March 2026, totaling 115,611.30 million pesos (mdp) in cash flow, a real growth of 3.1% compared to the same month of 2025, according to figures from the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM) .
The various sectors also registered positive figures; however, Value Added Tax (VAT) saw a 7.5% drop compared to March of last year, totaling 77,208.5 million pesos, according to data from the Customs Revenue and Operation Dashboard . In contrast, the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS) totaled 18,715.3 million pesos , a 72.3% year-on-year increase.
Operations increased by 3.8% in the third month of the year compared to the same period in 2025, with 1,917,495 transactions; and customs declarations showed a positive variation of 5.1% compared to the same period last year with 945,159 documents issued.
By customs type, the figures were mixed during March 2026, with maritime customs registering the greatest growth at 10.5% compared to March 2025, collecting 58,518.60 million pesos. Inland customs increased their revenue by 3% year-on-year to 19,503.14 million pesos. In contrast, those on the northern border totaled 37,298.73 million pesos , a drop of 6.8% during the period.
Meanwhile, the country’s main customs offices reported losses in the third month of the year. Veracruz saw a 17% decrease compared to the same period in 2015 , collecting 11,306.20 million pesos; and Nuevo Laredo contracted by 6.2% with 18,198.63 million pesos. Conversely, Manzanillo reported a slight increase of 1% year-on-year , collecting 15,045.61 million pesos.
In the accumulated period from January to March 2026, the figures were negative compared to the same period in 2025. A total of 323,202.59 million pesos were collected, a real decrease of 7.9% ; VAT reported a contraction of 17.7% with 211,936.2 million pesos; and the IEPS increased by 49.1% with 57,575.8 million pesos.
Meanwhile, operations in the accumulated total for 2026 showed stagnation compared to the same period in 2025 with 5,254,625 transactions; and customs declarations contracted by 1.9% in the period, totaling 2,584,253.
In March 2026, Mexico performed well in its foreign trade, despite persistent geopolitical tensions worldwide, such as the conflict in the Middle East.
According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) , Mexico’s exports totaled $70.727 billion in March, a 27.7% year-on-year increase. Imports during the same period reached $64.795 billion, a 24.3% increase compared to March 2015, resulting in a trade surplus of $5.932 billion .
