In the daily operation of highways , freight transport has become one of the most sensitive points in terms of security ; the daily dynamics in strategic corridors such as the Circuito Exterior Mexiquense show that operational risks are concentrated in the protection of goods and units in transit.
Reducing criminal activity , ensuring the safety of users—particularly truck drivers —and strengthening coordination with authorities are among the main challenges, stated Antonio Lorenzo Ramos, Global Director of Security at Aleatica . On at-grade highways, he explained, the risk increases due to the possibility of direct access, whether through unauthorized entry points or toll evasion.
In this regard, cargo theft is one of the main concerns . The executive warned that this phenomenon has gained ground due to its profitability for criminals, as it facilitates the sale of stolen goods.
In Mexico, crime occurs with a frequency that is no longer exceptional: according to specialists, every 30 minutes an incident is recorded on the road against transporters , reflecting an environment where the operation moves under constant risk .
Therefore, he explained that the operational strategies focus on:
- Strengthen surveillance.
- Strengthen monitoring on the road network.
- Intensify coordination with authorities.
- Use intelligence to identify criminal patterns.
- Rely on control centers to monitor the operation in real time.
These actions seek to close off spaces of operation for criminal groups , especially at access and exit points, where much of the vulnerability for cargo units is concentrated.
At the same time, road safety remains a key component in the operation of road transport. Factors such as speeding, cell phone use while driving, lack of seat belts, alcohol consumption, and risky behaviors—including motorcyclists—directly impact accident rates, explained Fernanda Espinosa Arcega, director of the Aleatica Foundation for Road Safety.
Under this scenario, the company has structured its operation with security as a cross-cutting axis , integrating specialized areas in both asset security and road and infrastructure safety, Espinosa said.
This approach seeks not only to contain the incidence of crime , but also to improve traffic conditions for freight transport in a network where operational risks continue to evolve.
