The cost of air transport was one of the services that showed the greatest increase during March 2025, which influenced, along with other goods, the rise of the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) , which stood at 3.80% at an annual rate , reported the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .
In the third month of the year, the INPC showed a variation of 0.31% compared to the previous month, while the underlying price index , which excludes goods and services with more volatile prices or that do not respond to market conditions, increased 0.43% on a monthly basis, with an increase in the price of merchandise of 0.45% and of services of 0.41 percent .
On a monthly basis, the non-core price index decreased 0.08 percent . Within this index, agricultural product prices rose 0.41 percent , and energy and government-authorized tariff prices fell 0.45 percent.
Products that went up and down in price
Lemons , up 20.75% ; green tomatoes , up 17.56% ; and air transport , up 10.90% , were the products that saw the greatest monthly price increases.
Meanwhile, low-octane gasoline saw a 1.63% decrease , while eggs and onions also saw their prices fall, with monthly increases of 0.86% and 13.44% , respectively.
Among the states with the largest increases in the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) in March 2025 are the State of Mexico, with 0.78% ; Jalisco and Guerrero, each with 0.53% ; and Oaxaca, with a monthly increase of 0.43% .
In other regions of Mexico, inflationary pressures were more moderate, due to smaller increases in fuel prices.
In this regard, Sinaloa, Sonora and Colima registered monthly variations below the national average, with decreases of 0.05% , 0.10% and 0.11% , respectively.
According to the INEGI report, headline inflation in March 2025 rose for the second consecutive month, reaching 3.8% annually , after accelerating to 3.77% annually last February.
It is worth remembering that on March 27, the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) lowered the interest rate to 9% , which was its sixth consecutive cut and the second of 50 basis points, in an environment of uncertainty caused by the United States tariff plan, which was paused for the entire world for 90 days, although China did not enter this grace period.
