Atlas Air Worldwide announced a firm order for 20 Airbus A350F freighters , with options for an additional 20 aircraft. The airline will add these aircraft to its fleet, which currently consists solely of Boeing aircraft .

In a statement, the company explained that the order represents a key investment in its long-term fleet strategy and positions it to drive sustained growth. Deliveries of the A350F are expected to begin in 2029 and conclude in 2034.

“This order reflects our commitment to maintaining the most modern and fuel-efficient widebody freighter fleet to best serve existing and new customers worldwide. The A350F is a highly capable and reliable platform, with incremental benefits in payload and range, and a strong sustainability profile,” said Michael Steen, CEO of Atlas Air Worldwide.

The A350F, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines , will support strategic expansion and broaden Atlas’ fleet offering for its customers in the global cargo and charter markets, delivering strong payload range and fuel efficiency.

The new aircraft will complement the company’s fleet, which currently has 113 Boeing 747, 777 and 767 aircraft , reinforcing Atlas’s position as the world’s largest operator of widebody freighters, with a market share of approximately 13 percent.

“We are proud to welcome Atlas, the world’s leading operator of widebody freighters. At Airbus, we are committed to a long-term partnership as Atlas introduces this new platform to its fleet,” said Lars Wagner, CEO of Airbus Commercial Aircraft.

Furthermore, this model is the only freighter that will fully comply with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) enhanced carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions standards , which will come into effect in 2027. Featuring the industry’s largest main deck cargo door, the fuselage’s length and capacity are optimized around industry-standard pallets and containers. The fuselage is constructed from advanced materials for a lighter takeoff weight.

Similarly, it strengthens the company’s fleet profile, as the order supports long-term career growth opportunities and operational expansion for pilots. As new aircraft join the fleet, Atlas anticipates creating more widebody flying opportunities and further solidifying its position as a leading employer for pilots and aviation professionals.
