The pandemic, which generated increased demand for e-commerce, the disruption of the supply chain caused by COVID-19, nearshoring, and now the efforts to industrialize the country with Plan Mexico, have increased the demand for logistics services, and this trend is expected to continue.
In an interview with T21 for the December 2024 edition of T21 magazine, Nino Liaño, CEO of Baja Ferries , commented that “we must raise our heads beyond the ferry, by strengthening the logistics focus and short-distance and cabotage routes.”
On that route, Baja Ferries introduced BF Connect, its multimodal and logistics services offering, focused on providing a comprehensive solution to customers from origin to destination , shared Sebastián Díaz Pizarro, the company’s Director of New Business Development.
During his presentation at The Logistics World, Díaz Pizarro stated that the modernization of various infrastructures, such as the ports of Lázaro Cárdenas and Manzanillo, as well as the integration of cabotage services, have been progressing, but greater speed is required.
Given this reality and the market need, BF Connect offers a 360-degree logistics model. “The goal is to be able to address all the needs a customer may have,” added Sebastián Díaz.
In its integration, BF Connect counts on commercial partners to fulfill its service portfolio, such as the Ferromex rail service , its own and outsourced transport, as well as port operators. “As we have said, the principle of this proposal also has a focus on sustainability and CO2 reduction ,” Díaz Pizarro highlighted.
BF Connect’s service portfolio includes intermodal services, combining rail equipment and logistics integration. “This can range from maneuvers at the port of origin or at the gate to the ship,” the executive added, adding that they have a complete network: maneuvers, delivery, including detailed delivery, which they are aware is one of the most demanding.
Special bulk cargo projects are also considered. “We’ve moved everything from the first stone of a hotel to the last mirror that’s installed , we’ve moved the circus, the carnival, we can move removals, we move bridesmaids, cars, etc.,” he said.
Regarding rail services, the Grupo México Transportes network is being used , reaching as far south as Southern California, with services from the center of the country across the Pacific. Meanwhile, ferries connect to this rail network from the port of Mazatlán and the port of Topolobampo to transport cargo to Baja California Sur.
