The digitalization of transportation and the impact of artificial intelligence on route optimization and safety are some of the issues that will mark the course of trucking in the coming years, according to specialists in the Trends 2025 panel , held at the launch of Nextar X9, by BAIC Trucks México .
One of the key points addressed was the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in operational efficiency. Francisco Cabeza , an expert in electric mobility, explained that AI makes it possible to predict traffic , identify mechanical failures before they occur and optimize fuel consumption.
“If we can anticipate a breakdown, we avoid losing days of operation and reduce risks on the road,” said Cabeza.
In terms of sustainability , Miguel Elizalde , specialist in sustainable mobility and director of the consultancy Mobility Sustainable , highlighted the importance of implementing engines with Euro 6 regulations, which significantly reduce polluting emissions.
“The adoption of this technology not only benefits the environment, but also improves fuel efficiency and reduces costs for transporters,” said Elizalde.
Another key aspect of the discussion was the inclusion of women in the freight transport industry . Paola Moncada, president of the Association of Women Operators , highlighted the growth of female participation in the sector thanks to technological advances in heavy vehicles.
“Nowadays, automated transmissions and assistance systems make driving easier and reduce barriers to entry for women,” Moncada explained.
In addition, the specialists highlighted the need for transporters to not only consider the initial cost of acquiring a unit, but also the total cost of operation (TCO) , which includes maintenance, fuel consumption and operational efficiency.
Elizalde emphasized that evaluating these factors is key to making smart investment decisions and ensuring long-term profitability.
The panel concluded with a call for the adoption of new technologies and sustainable strategies that will enable the sector to face the challenges of the future.
