SAP and the new symphony of the supply chain

The German technology company is betting on native AI and digital orchestration to tackle global volatility.

LAS VEGAS, NV – In times where uncertainty has become the norm, companies face the dilemma of how to transform disruption into a competitive advantage. This was the backdrop against which SAP presented, during SAP Connect 2025 , its vision for an intelligent, integrated supply chain orchestrated by artificial intelligence (AI).

Muhammad Alam, a member of the company’s Executive Committee, was emphatic: “AI is not an add-on feature; it is the core of enterprise software . We are reinventing our applications so that intelligence is integrated into every workflow.”

The statement is not insignificant: it reflects a paradigm shift where technology ceases to be a peripheral assistant and becomes the heart of decision-making.

SAP’s presentation revolved around a central idea: applications, data, and AI algorithms must function as a single system . Fragmentation, they say, is no longer acceptable. Alam emphasized that this model not only eliminates information silos but also the costs of integrating disparate solutions.

“When data, AI, and applications work harmoniously, companies achieve global value, not just isolated results,” he explained.

Intelligence and user

SAP’s Chief Strategy Officer, Sebastian Steinhaeuser, went further by describing five innovation patterns that mark the company’s path: AI embedded in applications, autonomous execution through intelligent agents, native AI applications, app -less experiences – with conversational interfaces – and applications generated in real time according to user needs.

“We are creating an environment where AI not only assists, but also executes, predicts, and learns. Users won’t search for the application: the application will find them,” he summarized. This vision aims to transform the interaction between companies and systems, and it stems from the premise that volatility is not temporary, but structural.

As Alam pointed out, “Eight out of 10 CEOs know that volatility is here to stay. The challenge is to anticipate it and turn it into growth.”
