
The production value of the construction sector in Mexico fell 5.6% year-on-year in December 2025 , according to information from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) released this Tuesday
According to the National Survey of Construction Companies (ENEC), the number of people employed decreased by 3.9% in the last month of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
Hours worked also declined year-on-year, falling by 4.6 percent. Conversely, average real wages increased by 3.1 percent annually.
In its monthly comparison, the value of production by construction companies showed a positive performance, registering an increase of 1.7% in December 2025. The number of people employed remained unchanged.
In the last month of last year, hours worked in the construction sector fell 0.6% month-on-month, while wages fell 0.2% month-on-month.

By state, the State of Mexico showed the largest annual growth in production value, with an increase of 45.5 percent. Conversely, Oaxaca registered the largest contraction, with a year-on-year decline of 73%.
Nayarit showed a positive change in employment, with an increase of 25.6 percent. Meanwhile, Michoacán experienced the largest decrease, with a 33.6 percent drop in construction employment year-on-year.
Despite the mixed performance of the construction sector on an annual and monthly basis in December 2025, this industry is positioned as an engine for economic growth and employment in Mexico for 2026, derived from the Mexico Plan , especially due to the 14 Economic Development Poles for Well-being , which will promote the construction of industrial parks in several states of the country such as Hidalgo, Michoacán and Guanajuato, among others.
According to specialists, the construction of a new home generates more than eight jobs and mobilizes several sectors of the supply chain, such as cement, steel and glass.
