In August 2024, the automotive industry in Mexico experienced a significant increase in the production and export of light vehicles , according to the latest report from the Administrative Registry of the Light Vehicle Automotive Industry (RAIAVL) , published by the National Institute of Geography and Statistics (Inegi) .
At the production level , in the first eight months of the year Mexico reached the manufacture of two million 651 thousand 060 light vehicles, of which 75.8% correspond to light trucks, while the remaining 24.2% belong to automobiles (640 thousand 663 units).
Regarding exports , 292,670 light vehicles were sent abroad in August, totaling two million 275 thousand 761 units exported during the period from January to August 2024 .
These figures represent a growth of 7.4% compared to the same period last year and demonstrate the dynamism of the Mexican automotive sector, which continues to consolidate its position as a key player in international trade.
The data also reveal the dominance of brands affiliated with the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA) , which together produced 95.4% of the total light vehicles in Mexico during the period analyzed.
In this context, the Mexican automotive sector reflects its importance not only in domestic production, but also in its contribution to foreign trade, being a key source of income and employment in the country and a focus for the nearshoring phenomenon.
