By 2025, the National Road Network (RNC) increased by 73,537 kilometers (km) compared to 2024 , to a total of 178,608.49 kilometers of roads , reflecting the importance of the mobility of people and goods in Mexico, and facilitating logistics processes and supply chains in the country.
According to the report released this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) , the country has 530,493 km of rural roads, 274,097 km of urban roads and 21,597 km of footpaths.
Of the total roads, 11,381.95 km are toll roads, and 167,226.54 km are free.
Likewise, 51,310.46 km are federal, 103,787.20 km are state, 19,757.06 km are municipal and 3,753.77 km are administered by private individuals and others.

Mexico also has 28,941 sites of interest, among which stand out 184 ports , of which 14 are shelter ports, 19 industrial ports, 26 Navy ports, 14 military ports, 81 fishing ports and 30 tourist ports; as well as 32 multimodal cargo terminals.
Among other data, RCN indicated that there are 160 airports : 75 international, 53 local, 17 military, and 15 national; in addition to 63 railway stations . There are also 189 airstrips, 77 border crossings, and 73 customs offices.
According to the National Road Network, there are 18,195 bridges and 256 tunnels in the country, as well as 1,376 toll plazas, 46,289 kilometer markers, and 38,474 prohibited maneuvers, which are the points that drivers must avoid to turn onto other roads.
This report provides insight into the country’s progress in road infrastructure, making it easier to address the current challenges facing Mexico’s freight and logistics industry.
According to Inegi, the National Road Network provides state units and the general public with a unique land transport network that integrates highways, roads and roads throughout the country.
“This system integrates the country’s highways, roads, paths, and footpaths. Its structure allows for the determination of optimal travel routes between an origin and a destination, using geographic information systems. Furthermore, it facilitates the analysis of transportation networks and the study of various phenomena associated with mobility,” he explained.
The update of the RNC is the result of a joint effort between Inegi, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) , and the Mexican Institute of Transport (IMT) .
