Sales of new light vehicles in the domestic market in Mexico showed significant growth in the first half of 2024, with an increase of 11.9% compared to the same period of the previous year, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography ( Inegi) .
During the period from January to June 2024, 708,650 light vehicles were sold , in contrast to the 633,087 vehicles sold in the same period of 2023. This reflects an increase of 75,563 units.
In June of this year alone, 122,929 units were sold , 8.3% more than in June 2023, when 113,553 units were sold. This increase represents 9,376 additional units sold. Compared to the previous month, May 2024, an increase of 2.5% was observed, with 2,944 more units sold.
The executive president of the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA) , Guillermo Rosales Zárate, highlighted that the domestic market has exceeded expectations with these figures.
“The light vehicle market in June was higher than estimated by AMDA, which stood at 115,975 units. The percentage difference with respect to the observed data of 122,929 units was -5.7%,” commented the AMDA executive president.
The report also indicates that the marketing level in June 2024 is higher than in June 2019, with 15.1% more units sold . In the period from January to June 2024, the market is positioned 10.6% above 2019 sales levels.
According to Rosales Zárate, these figures are positive for the Mexican automotive industry, driven by robust domestic demand and a gradual economic recovery.
