
In August 2025, Mexican mining and metallurgical production registered a 2.1% monthly drop , amid an economic outlook slowed by the United States’ tariff policy, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) reported Wednesday .
According to the Statistics of the Mining and Metallurgical Industry (EIMM) , which provides information on this activity for the purpose of generating timely indicators, production increased by 0.2 percent at an annual rate .
The August increase in the annual figure represented the lowest increase in the last 15 months, according to data from INEGI.

By product, sulfur production increased by 55.2%, while lead also saw an annual increase of 15.7% last August. Gold , fluorite , and silver saw increases in production of 11.3%, 3.6%, and 1.5%, respectively.
On the other hand, iron pellet production fell 19.3%, zinc fell 13%, while copper and gypsum fell 7.9% and 1.5% annually, respectively.

During the period, Zacatecas stood out in gold production with 16.9%, as well as in lead with 12.1%. Durango showed optimal performance in silver production with 9.8%, as well as zinc with 5.1% at an annual rate.
The Mexican mining and metallurgical industry has been one of the hardest hit by tariffs, specifically on products such as steel and aluminum, which the United States has imposed a 50 percent tariff on.
According to INEGI, Mexican mining and metallurgical production includes extraction, beneficiation, smelting, and refining of metallic and non-metallic minerals.
