The federal government presented the Mexico Plan, a national strategy that seeks to consolidate the country as a global economic power , which, according to President Claudia Sheinbaum, already has a portfolio of national and foreign investments amounting to 277 billion dollars (mdd), which includes around two thousand specific projects aimed at strengthening strategic sectors , improving competitiveness and promoting sustainable development.
The plan includes 13 specific goals, including that 50% of national supplies and consumption will be made in Mexico in the textile, footwear, furniture and toy sectors ; an increase of 15% in national content; and that 50% of public purchases will be of national production.
The government will also seek to reduce the time required to invest in Mexico from 2.6 to one year to encourage the relocation of companies.
To achieve these goals, the Government of Mexico announced some strategies such as the Relocation Decree , which will be in force until October 2030, and which seeks to encourage the arrival of foreign companies and strengthen national ones through the immediate deduction of investments in high technology, research and development sectors, an additional benefit of 25% on incremental spending intended to train workers in collaboration with educational and research institutions, and equal conditions that do not discriminate between Mexican and foreign companies, or between sectors.
On the other hand, 12 Development Poles of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (Podebis) will be created , in addition to two poles in Yucatan and five additional polygons in key areas of the country.
Likewise, the IMMEX program will be updated to consolidate procedures such as VAT and IEPS Certification, reducing start-up times for new companies by 50 percent.
As for dates, the Mexico Plan contemplates that the Relocation Decree will be published by January 17 and the initiative for the National Law for the Simplification and Digitalization of Procedures will be presented to Congress.
Working groups will be formed from January 20 to 24 to define which sectors should be encouraged, which products will be imported and which will be produced in Mexico.
Likewise, from February 24 to 28, a decree will be published that will establish at least one Wellness Pole in each strategic industrial corridor and formalize the IMMEX 4.0 program .
