The opening of cargo vehicle operators is crucial for the adoption of technological tools that promote road safety , as well as the asset protection of cargo transportation companies.
Omar Camacho, general director of Motive México , in his capacity as a technology provider, explained that in order to incentivize operators, especially those with greater experience, it is necessary for them to know that the purpose of technology is to improve working conditions, with tools for their well-being that also contribute to reaching the goal of reducing incidents on the roads to almost zero, which in 2023 alone claimed the lives of 163 heavy vehicle occupants, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .
“To the extent that harmful behaviors for both drivers and other road users can be avoided, this begins to have a positive effect,” Camacho said in an interview with T21.
According to the specialist, it is possible to achieve zero road accidents caused by drivers in the country . This goal will be achieved with good training, the elimination of distractions while driving, continuous monitoring and the adoption of technology and artificial intelligence.
Although the objective seems complex, thanks to the fact that Mexico is experiencing a moment of transformation in cargo transportation, this is possible. “We want to create conditions where there is greater security, we are certain that technology is the greatest hope for creating this security ecosystem, it is important that the new generations of transporters, and of course those before them, have an open mind to understand the impact of one or several technologies around driving and I think that now is the time when these tools have to be adopted massively,” added Camacho.
Although, the manager was punctual in highlighting that not all technological solutions on the market apply to all companies , on the contrary, one of the characteristics of the Mexican market is that it has personalized its approach to technology and this is the right way, to do it in a particular and gradual way.
Taking into account that the driver deficit in Mexico reached 56 thousand jobs in 2023, according to estimates by the International Road Transport Organization (IRU) , to the extent that organizations reinforce their commitment to the well-being of their operators and implement policies to strengthen good practices, they will be able to retain their operators and even generate new talents, but above all promoting safe roads and at this point technological tools are a key piece .
