In the first half of March 2025, the decline in the cost of some products such as eggs, chicken, as well as fruits and vegetables, slowed the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) , which measures the variation in the prices of a basket of goods and services, to 3.67% annually , according to information from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) published this Monday.
In the reference period, the INPC reported a biweekly variation of 0.14% , while the underlying price index , which excludes goods and services with more volatile prices or that do not respond to market conditions, increased 0.24% at a biweekly rate, with an increase in the price of merchandise with 0.25% and of services with 0.22 percent .
On a biweekly basis, the non-core price index fell 0.19%, with agricultural product prices rising 0.09% and energy prices and government-authorized tariffs falling 0.41% .
Among the products that registered increases in the period were green tomatoes with 10.45% , lemons with 9.02% , air transport with 6.09% , and beef with 1.53 percent .
On the contrary, onions showed a decrease in price of 6.04% , potatoes and other tubers with 2.67% , low octane gasoline with a fall of 1.32% , eggs with 0.84% , and chicken also lowered its cost by 0.37 percent .
Among the entities with the highest increases in the INPC are the State of Mexico with 0.56% , Jalisco with 0.43% and Oaxaca with 0.32 percent .
Meanwhile, Colima, Sonora and Guanajuato had variations below the national average, with decreases of 0.15% , 0.07% and 0.03% , respectively.
According to these figures, inflation slowed again in the first half of March, after reaching 3.77% annualized in February.
In this context, analysts have warned that the economic outlook in Mexico for this year will be moderate and with significant challenges due to political uncertainty, both in the country and in the United States, whose government, headed by President Donald Trump , seeks to impose tariffs of 25% on Mexico, a measure that was paused until April 2 but only for products that are within the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC) .
