Mexico’s transport, postal and storage sector stood at 116.7 points in May 2026, an increase of 0.3% compared to last April , according to the Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE), carried out by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .
On an annual basis, the country’s logistics industry also showed positive performance, registering a 0.6% increase in its economic activity.
With these figures, the IGAE in the logistics sector showed a better performance than in April 2016, when it had a monthly growth of 0.1% and a drop of 0.2% in its annual measurement.
In general terms, in the fifth month of 2026, the IGAE fell 0.3% on a monthly basis , although on an annual basis it increased 2% to stand at 107 points.
The monthly result of the IGAE in May marked the second decline of this indicator in the year.
Within the IGAE (Global Indicator of Economic Activity), primary activities —agriculture and livestock—fell by 0.5 percent. Secondary activities—manufacturing and construction—declined by 0.8 percent. Conversely, tertiary activities—services such as transportation, postal services, and warehousing—increased by 0.2 percent in May 2026 compared to the previous April.
In its annual measurement, primary activities grew 7.7%, tertiary activities increased 2.6%, while secondary activities showed no variation, representing stagnation.
The IGAE allows us to understand and monitor the evolution of the real sector of the economy in the short term, so its measurement is key for economic decision-making.
Furthermore, it estimates the growth or contraction of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), as well as detecting the behavior of the productive sectors, which offers an overview of the Mexican economy and its impact on the finances of companies.
