The funds raised during the 8th Contecon Manzanillo Charity Race were used for infrastructure, equipment and improvements for 20 educational institutions, to which 2.8 million pesos (mdp) were allocated .

These resources resulted in a benefit for 6,545 students from schools in Manzanillo, Colima, who received interventions between February and August 2026, thanks to the resources obtained during the race held in 2025, Contecon Manzanillo reported in a statement.

The works responded to the particular needs of each school and included the installation and improvement of roofs, dining areas, access porticos and perimeter fences, in addition to lighting work and the incorporation of sound equipment and closed circuit systems.

The schools that benefited were Manuel Murguía Galindo, Cristóbal Colón, Miguel Hidalgo, Homobono Llamas, Juan Escutia, Arnoldo Ochoa, Benjamín Amador Cisneros, Mariano Miranda Fonseca, Escultor Sebastián, Pedro Sainz de Baranda, María Adelina, CAM Anne Sullivan, Francisco Villa, Benito Rincón López, Jorge Chávez Carrillo, Marina Nacional, 5 de Mayo, 5 de Febrero, Venustiano Carranza and Rafaela Suárez, the statement indicated.

The handover of the works took place on September 30th, with the participation of José Antonio Contreras, CEO of Contecon Manzanillo; Adolfo Núñez González, Secretary of Education of Colima; Juan Carlos Salas, Director of Human Resources of the company; as well as representatives of sponsors, teachers and students.

An initiative that is gaining support

Adding up the history of the initiative, throughout its eight editions, Contecon estimates that more than 20,000 students in Manzanillo have benefited through actions aimed at improving the conditions of their schools.

The terminal indicated that it will seek to maintain the initiative in future editions and continue channeling resources to schools in Manzanillo that require infrastructure and equipment improvements.

“The Race for a Cause goes far beyond a sporting competition. It is an initiative that brings together runners, families, businesses, and the entire community around a common goal: to contribute to improving the educational conditions of children and young people in Manzanillo,” Contreras emphasized.

Contecon Manzanillo is preparing for its 9th Annual Charity Race , which will take place on Sunday, November 8th. This year, they expect a maximum of five thousand runners to participate .

The race will be divided into competitive segments of 3, 5.5 and 10 kilometers on routes through the Contecon Manzanillo and Hazesa terminals, the latter being multi-purpose, as well as external roads such as the second northern access to the port.

El cargo Race for a Cause: Contecon Manzanillo promotes educational infrastructure in the region apareció primero en T21.

Few people in the world have had the opportunity to participate in a race where the route involves passing under the imposing cranes of more than two thousand tons in a port terminal , from which thousands of containers are loaded or unloaded from ships every day in foreign trade transits.

The Contecon Manzanillo Charity Race will once again offer this experience for the second time in its ninth edition (next Sunday, November 8), accompanied by more than 50 sponsoring companies this time.

“We decided to focus on education,” stated José Antonio Contreras, CEO of Contecon Manzanillo , at the press conference where details of the upcoming event were presented. He explained that 100% of the funds raised will be used to remodel and improve school facilities in Manzanillo, the country’s main port for containerized cargo. To date, approximately 80 schools have received funding.

This year, organizers expect a maximum of 5,000 runners to participate . They currently have approximately 1,500 registered runners. The race will be divided into competitive segments of 3, 5.5, and 10 kilometers, with routes through the Contecon Manzanillo and Hazesa terminals (the latter a multi-use facility), as well as external roads such as the port’s second northern access road.

The possibility that a portion of the Manzanillo port’s customs area might be closed to allow for a race requires close coordination between the terminals and the authorities involved in cargo inspection and security. Few events at the Port of Manzanillo have managed to bring together such a large segment of the business community. Social responsibility plays a significant role in this.

This year the godmother of the race will be Paola Espinosa , Mexican diver and two-time Olympic medalist.

“We are very fortunate to work in a beautiful place and be able to be there all the time, but this dynamic of being able to run around inside and be next to these huge ships and cranes is something very special, and last year’s event was truly impressive. I think we will surpass it this year ,” predicted Raúl Sandoval, CEO of Grupo Hazesa .

Throughout its eight past editions, the Contecon Manzanillo Charity Race has been a magnet for runners from across Mexico and around the world. This competition has also served to strengthen the relationship between the local population and port activities , a relationship that often deteriorates when road blockades or traffic incidents occur involving trucking, one of the port’s most visible and controversial aspects.

“We know that education is the path to transforming dreams into reality, and I celebrate that Contecon is channeling the resources generated here to professionalize schools and strengthen the education of children and young people,” said César Romero, CEO of CIMA Group .

Of the money raised in the years since the race began, just over 10 million pesos have been invested and just over 20,000 girls and boys have benefited.

In a port terminal, sustainability is no longer an issue that occurs on the sidelines of operations. The electrification of equipment, the reduction of emissions, staff training, and the way decisions are made are becoming part of a more efficient operation while reducing environmental impact.

Under that logic, Hutchison Ports LCT , Hutchison Ports LCMT and Hutchison Ports ICAVE moved from Level 2, called “Initiator”, to Level 3, “Innovator”, the highest category of the Sustainability Baseline Assessment 2025 , in the annual evaluation developed by the Hutchison Ports Group Sustainability Committee from Hong Kong to assess the degree of maturity in sustainability of its business units worldwide .

In a statement, Hutchison Ports explained that the scheme includes five categories: Governance, Environment, People, Business and Recognition , with the aim of measuring the degree of implementation of sustainable practices and the progress made during the last year.

Reaching the “Innovator” level means that sustainability begins to be incorporated into the daily management of terminals and not just into specific environmental projects.

Among the practices considered for progress, the participation of the Sustainability Committees of each terminal in the planning and monitoring of sustainability and decarbonization initiatives stands out .

“In addition, there are formal training and development systems for each position, annual monitoring of employees, leadership skills training focused on succession planning, as well as the establishment of goals and indicators to promote staff development,” the company explained.

The progress comes at a time when port operators face the need to increase capacity and productivity while moving towards lower-emission operations.

In the Mexican Pacific, Hutchison Ports LCT and Hutchison Ports LCMT, located in Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, received their awards on August 5, 2026, and were presented to Manuel García Gordillo, general manager of both business units, as a result of the progress achieved during the last evaluated period.

Hutchison Ports ICAVE in Veracruz received its Level 3, “Innovator” certification on August 25th. The award was accepted by Javier Rodríguez, General Manager of Hutchison Ports ICAVE. The terminal advanced from Level 2 after strengthening, among other aspects, the participation of its Sustainability Committee in managing sustainability and decarbonization initiatives, as well as its formal processes for employee training, monitoring, and development.

The outcome of the three terminals is aligned with Hutchison Ports’ sustainability pillars: Our People, Our Environment and Our Business , under a model that incorporates governance practices across the board.

By achieving the highest level established by the Sustainability Baseline Assessment, Hutchison Ports LCT, Hutchison Ports LCMT and Hutchison Ports ICAVE strengthen their performance within the group’s global sustainability model , which contributes to the monitoring and reporting of environmental, social and governance practices, aspects that have acquired increasing relevance for business groups listed on stock markets and their various stakeholders.

With this, the three terminals reach the highest level of the company’s evaluation scheme at a time when the port industry is seeking to handle greater trade flows and move towards more efficient operations with fewer emissions.

It is worth remembering that in May of this year, Hutchison Ports ICAVE announced an investment of more than 62.8 million pesos to electrify and automate part of its internal operations at the port of Veracruz , as part of its logistics modernization and emissions reduction strategy.

According to statistics from the General Directorate of Ports (DGP) , an office belonging to the General Coordination of Ports and Merchant Marine (CGPMM) of the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) , the port of Veracruz moved 802,184 TEUs (20-foot containers) in the period January-August 2026, which meant a drop of 5.6% compared to the same cycle of 2025.

Meanwhile, in the first eight months of the year, the port of Lázaro Cárdenas handled 1,805,022 TEUs , a 4.9% increase compared to the same period last year.

El cargo Three Mexican terminals of Hutchison Ports achieve “Innovator” level in sustainability apareció primero en T21.

An online purchase may begin with a click, but behind that action lies an entire ecosystem that impacts far beyond the transaction itself and transcends the socioeconomic sphere. This is one of the changes revealed by the so-called “MELI Effect ,” a study presented by Mercado Libre during the sixth edition of Mercado Libre Experience .

According to the analysis, Mercado Libre operated with 138 logistics centers in 2025, with a direct presence in 67 localities or municipalities in 31 federal entities, and more than 8,360 delivery and pickup agencies distributed in the 32 states of the country.

“Reducing logistics costs and times is what enables the growth of e-commerce, and it benefits small, peripheral, and low-ticket sellers the most,” the company said in a statement.

The study highlighted that the direct and indirect impact of the Mercado Libre ecosystem on the Mexican economy was more than 106.4 billion pesos (mdp) , equivalent to approximately 0.4% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

In addition, more than 220,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) sold their products through the platform last year. For 68% of them, this was their first online sales experience, while for 51% it is their primary sales channel.

In Mexico, a growing portion of online sales comes from SMEs and entrepreneurs.

The study revealed that two out of three SMEs reached cities they previously did not have commercial access to , while 47% used artificial intelligence for the first time through Mercado Libre’s tools.

“If there’s one thing that’s become clear to us in 27 years of operating in the country, it’s that Mexico has enormous transformative potential. Our job is to put technology, scale, and capabilities behind that momentum to democratize digital commerce and finance,” highlighted David Geisen, CEO of Mercado Libre Mexico and SVP of Commerce for Hispanics.

A market that continues to grow

This result comes in a Mexican market where e-commerce maintains double-digit growth rates. According to the Mexican Online Sales Association (AMVO) , e -commerce reached a value of 941 billion pesos in 2025 , a 19.2% increase compared to 2024. Retail represented 17.7% of the total market in the country.

For Mercado Libre, the impact extends beyond commerce. In 2025, more than 950,000 businesses and entrepreneurs used Mercado Pago to process payments . According to the study, 85% identified the platform as their primary payment method, and for more than half, it was their only one. Furthermore, over 40% of users in Mexico accessed a personal loan for the first time through Mercado Pago .

“These numbers reaffirm that Mercado Pago is part of the daily lives of millions of users and, without a doubt, the digital account of choice for Mexican SMEs. What we achieve with digital finance is breaking down barriers and providing solutions that support the needs of Mexicans and their businesses in multiple aspects of their financial lives,” highlighted Pedro Rivas, Vice President and General Manager of Mercado Pago Mexico.

On the demand side, 82% of surveyed consumers identified Mercado Libre as their first choice for searching for products , while 65% valued the possibility of accessing goods that are not available in their city.

The “MELI Effect” study was prepared using the company’s own information, an input-output model to estimate direct and indirect effects on GDP and employment using the methodology of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) .

This impact is also reflected in job creation. In 2025, the company directly employed more than 34,300 people in the country ; for every direct job, three more indirect jobs were generated throughout the rest of the economy, sustained by the economic impact of the ecosystem. In total, last year more than 136,800 jobs were linked to the company’s ecosystem.

“The multiplier effect of the Mercado Libre ecosystem translates into opportunities for growth and economic development for businesses and individuals, as well as an important contribution to the national economy to continue delivering the best of Mexico,” said David Geisen.

According to its second quarter 2026 results report, Mercado Libre obtained revenues of $10.2 billion, which meant a year-on-year growth of 50%.

MONTERREY, NL.– The sun’s rays were just beginning to bathe the emblematic Fundidora Park when the employees of Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) of Mexico gathered to participate in a race that combined sport, camaraderie and team spirit , reflecting the company’s commitment to the health and well-being of its workers.

More than a decade and a half of sporting tradition was reflected in the sixteenth edition of the CPKC Mexico race , where employees and their families participated in a day of physical activity and camaraderie.

As part of the event, medals and awards were presented , in addition to prizes for the top three places in the different categories, including the children’s participants.

Fundidora Park offered runners a route surrounded by large green areas , wooded paths and some of the most representative spaces of the old industrial zone that today constitutes one of the main urban lungs of Monterrey.

The symbiosis of Fundidora Park with the railway has its roots in the very development that this industrial space reached, where there was a wide internal network to move coal, iron ore and molten steel between the workshops and furnaces.

Now, in those spaces, the race participants were able to enjoy attractive views of the park, which were combined with a festive atmosphere driven by music and batucada along the route.

The competition featured runners of varying ages and experience levels , from those seeking to improve their personal bests to those participating in a sporting event for the first time. Children also had their own dedicated space, participating in categories designed to promote physical activity and healthy social interaction from an early age.

At the end, the awards ceremony was held, in which the top three places in each category were recognized for their performance. The winners received trophies and certificates, while all participants received commemorative medals as a memento of the event.

With these types of initiatives, CPKC de México reaffirmed its commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles , strengthening the bonds between its employees and creating spaces for coexistence that transcend the workplace, consolidating a tradition that year after year brings together the railway family around sports and recreation.

Grupo Aeroméxico has formed a strategic alliance with Grupo Bimbo through which it will promote the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in its corporate and business travel in Latin America.

With this alliance, the first of its kind in the region, both companies combine capabilities, vision and commitment to accelerate the reduction of emissions through the use of SAF , joining efforts to move towards more sustainable aviation.

The reduction of emissions will be certified through internationally recognized mechanisms for the allocation and traceability of the SAF.

“This alliance reflects how collaboration can accelerate the transition to more sustainable aviation in Mexico and Latin America, driving concrete actions to reduce emissions in key activities such as business travel. Human papillomavirus (HPV) in Mexico is one of the most persistent public health challenges. Although it is a highly preventable infection, its direct link to cervical cancer keeps it as one of the leading causes of death among women of reproductive age in the country .

Addressing this reality, the Rotary Club of Nuevo Laredo launched a campaign to reverse the situation in the country, through which more than 30,000 children have been vaccinated , using a prevention strategy.

To achieve a greater impact with this campaign, the Rotary Club of Nuevo Laredo developed a campaign called “Art in Motion ,” with the support of the transport companies originating from this border region: Super Transport International (STI)  and Mega Express , described Alfonso Salas, president of the Rotary Club of Nuevo Laredo, to T21.

This campaign was launched to commemorate the Rotary Club’s 82nd anniversary. According to Alfonso Salas, this strategy will allow them to travel throughout the country, using an artistic approach to raise awareness about HPV .

“Each stroke represents commitment, and each kilometer traveled represents a cause ,” highlights the campaign carried out by Rotary.

El cargo Rotary Club of Nuevo Laredo fights HPV aboard STI and Mega Express apareció primero en T21.

The water crisis, the energy transition, and electromobility cannot be analyzed separately. This was the argument put forward by Yolanda Villegas, CEO of Oleum and president of the Mexican Association of Storage, Electrification, and Mobility (AMAEM) , during the webinar “Water, Energy Transition, and Electromobility ,” organized by the Secretariat of Economic Development of Tamaulipas.

In her presentation, the specialist warned that water has become one of the main global risks to human survival and argued that Mexico faces increasing pressure stemming from climate change, industrial expansion, and the rise in energy demand.

“Instead of calling ourselves planet Earth, we should call ourselves planet water,” he said.

Villegas González emphasized that the water problem is not only due to the physical scarcity caused by reduced rainfall, but also to an “economic scarcity” related to the lack of infrastructure to bring water to different communities.

In this context, he explained that Mexico faces an unequal distribution of the resource: while the north and center of the country concentrate the greatest industrial and economic activity, much of the available water is located in the south.

He pointed out that the country requires comprehensive water management that considers not only the extraction of the resource, but also its environmental, social and economic impacts.

He also raised the need to explore new technologies for water supply, such as the so-called “ultra-deep underground mega-basins” , a model that seeks to take advantage of water reserves located between three thousand and five thousand meters deep.

According to the speaker, these types of solutions could represent less invasive alternatives than large dams or desalination plants, as they require less infrastructure, less development time, and less environmental impact.

The energy transition is no longer optional.

Villegas warned that the increase in global energy demand continues to drive the use of fossil fuels and, with it, the increase in polluting emissions and global temperature.

He explained that the energy sector currently generates more than 73% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions , so he considered it urgent to accelerate the shift towards clean energy.

During the webinar , he defined the energy transition as the gradual process by which economies migrate from a matrix based on fossil fuels to one based on renewable energies, electrification and clean technologies.

Among the pillars of this transition he mentioned decarbonization, energy decentralization, digitalization and democratization of access to energy.

The specialist highlighted that Mexico has strategic advantages for this transformation thanks to its solar, wind and hydroelectric potential, particularly in states like Tamaulipas .

However, he also defended the use of fossil fuels and nuclear energy as part of an orderly transition strategy.

“There are countries that continue to use oil, coal, and gas while urging emerging economies to stop. Mexico must take advantage of its energy resources while developing new technologies,” he argued.

Electromobility

Another key topic was electromobility, which, according to Villegas González, will transform the transport industry in the coming decades.

He noted that by 2030, up to 50% of the world’s vehicles could be fully or partially electric , while by 2040 more than 500 million electric vehicles would be on the road globally.

In the case of Mexico, he highlighted the growth of the electric automotive industry and the country’s potential as a producer of auto parts.

“Electromobility doesn’t just mean buying electric vehicles; it requires charging infrastructure, regulation, tax incentives, training, and smarter electrical grids,” he explained.

He also highlighted the progress of cities like Mexico City in incorporating electric buses into public transport, although he acknowledged that there are still significant regulatory and infrastructure challenges.

Among them, he mentioned the lack of public charging stations , the absence of regulation for the final disposal of batteries, the need for safety protocols for fires in electric vehicles, insufficient tax incentives and poor legislative coordination.

The expert insisted that the energy transition will depend largely on political will and the ability of governments to promote clear public policies.

“Public policy is fundamental. Without it there will be no regulation, incentives, or implementation,” he stated.

He also stressed that the State must maintain a leading role in energy, environmental and water issues to guarantee energy security, food security and access to water.

Villegas González argued that sustainable mobility begins with a cultural shift and a change in transportation habits, prioritizing efficient public systems, sustainable infrastructure, and less polluting technologies.

“The goal is not only to electrify vehicles, but to build more efficient, resilient and sustainable cities ,” he stressed.

El cargo Water, energy transition and electromobility: the challenges that will shape Mexico’s sustainable future apareció primero en T21.

During the event, Rocío Oyuki Torres López, Deputy Manager of Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Protection at Hutchison Ports EIT , highlighted the importance of these actions within the framework of World Climate Day, and invited young people to become “guardians of the planet”. 

Meanwhile, on March 25, Hutchison Ports ECV donated a sports field to Lázaro Cárdenas Secondary School No. 8 in the Maneadero district. The facility, which was formerly part of the Ensenada Cruise Terminal, was renovated and relocated for the use of 1,348 students . During the handover ceremony, a meeting was held between terminal employees and students from various grade levels at the school. The project was made possible through the collaboration of Omega Servicios Integrales de Ingeniería and Ensenada Grass.

Finally, on March 18, the ECV terminal arranged an educational visit aboard the Navigator of the Seas cruise ship , where 24 students from Los Olivos elementary school participated, under the coordination of Royal Caribbean.

Hutchison Ports ICAVE presented awards to 427 employees who completed their professional certification process under national labor competency standards.

“We are pioneers in implementing a comprehensive certification program for all operators, across all categories, nationwide. Unlike other schemes in the sector, which tend to be partial or reactive, this model is preventative and covers the entire operation ,” highlighted Enrique Campillo, Operations Manager of Hutchison Ports ICAVE.

The certification guarantees that accredited personnel meet the highest levels of performance in critical port maneuvers , particularly in activities such as the application of slings in lifting maneuvers and the safe operation of specialized mobile equipment, including flatbed trucks, forklifts, empty handlers and RTG cranes.

Also included were middle management from areas such as dock, yard, CFS warehouse, pre-shipment and maintenance, who received certification in the slinging process for lifting maneuvers.

The certification is part of Hutchison Ports ICAVE’s ongoing strategy of modernization, operational safety and strengthening of human capital .

“This program represents a strategic investment in the development of the terminal’s operational staff. In total, more than 2,300 man-hours were dedicated to standards review, technical training, and specialized evaluation,” the company emphasized in a statement.

The process included theoretical classroom training and personalized practical sessions for mobile equipment operators, with the aim of ensuring mastery of the national competency standards endorsed by the National Council for Standardization and Certification of Labor Competencies (Conocer) , applicable to each type of equipment.

“This is a comprehensive process that includes the certification of all operators of all equipment. Previously, this type of certification focused on specific equipment, such as some cranes; today we are extending it to the entire operation,” added Enrique Campillo.

The program was made possible thanks to a strategic alliance between Hutchison Ports ICAVE, Trainmar Mexico and the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC) .

The ceremony was held in the auditorium of the National Port System Administration (Asipona) Veracruz , and was attended by port authorities, representatives of sector organizations and directors of the institutions involved, including Darío Rodríguez, director of Trainmar Mexico, and Juan Antonio Pinilla Rodríguez, vice president of the energy sector of the CMIC port of Veracruz.

The event marked the culmination of the first stage of the operator professionalization program. The terminal is now preparing to implement a second phase that will include the rest of the mobile equipment staff.
