Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and  Querétaro  International Airport (AIQ) , which are among the top 10 air terminals handling cargo in Mexico, were the only ones that grew from January to May of this year compared to the same period in 2024, the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) reported .

The AICM registered a 5.4% increase , ending the period with 101,432.7 tons, which represented 5,161.7 tons more year-on-year. Meanwhile, the AIQ handled 31,668.4 tons from January to May 2025, that is, 438.2 tons more than the same period last year, an increase of 1.4 percent .

Despite these figures, total air cargo in Mexico fell by 6.3% in the reference period, compared to the same cycle in 2024, since the rest of the airports experienced decreases, such as the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) , which fell 16.9%, going from 183,494.2 tons in the first five months of 2024 to 152,524.5 tons in the same period this year.

On July 9, T21 reported that Isidoro Pastor, director general of AIFA, said that the decline in cargo movement is due to the tariff policy imposed by the United States .

Meanwhile, Toluca International Airport (AIT) saw the largest decrease in the top 10 , ending the aforementioned period with 13,151.5 tons, representing a drop of 18.9 percent.

The AFAC (Agricultural and Customs Administration) specified that nationwide cargo flow increased from 156,859.4 tons in the first five months of 2024 to 151,929.6 tons in the same period this year , a 3.1% year-over-year decrease. The AIQ (Industrial and Customs Administration) moved 22,756.3 tons from January to May 2025, representing a 7.1% increase.
