Private consumption in Mexico registered a monthly growth of 0.5% during August 2026 , while in its annual comparison it advanced 1.4%, according to the Monthly Indicator of Private Consumption (IMCP), published this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .
With seasonally adjusted figures, the indicator reached a level of 114 points , based on 2018, driven mainly by spending on domestically produced goods and services, which increased 0.6% compared to last July . Within this component, consumption of goods grew 0.7%, while consumption of services advanced 0.4% month-on-month.
In contrast, spending on imported goods showed no variation during the eighth month of the year in its monthly comparison.
On an annual basis, consumption of domestic goods and services increased by 1.1%, with increases of 1.1% in goods and 1% in services. Meanwhile, imported goods registered annual growth of 0.7%.

The August result represents progress after consumption had shown less dynamism during July 2026, when it reported variations of 0% on a monthly basis and 1.1% annually.
Furthermore, it reflects a significant weight of spending on domestic goods and services, and a context of slowdown, but with positive signs in the import market.
The Monthly Indicator of Private Consumption allows us to know the evolution of spending by households on consumer goods and services, both of national origin and imported, explained Inegi.
