As part of its 45th anniversary, MTM , a Mexican manufacturer of concrete mixers and waste compactors, maintains an international distribution strategy based on optimizing logistics costs and making the most of container space, while developing new products and identifying growth opportunities in Latin American markets.
MTM is a company originally from Puebla, part of Grupo CIPSA , and its expansion has reached various territories across the Americas. Emmanuel Vargas, the company’s Marketing Manager, explained in an interview with T21 that currently around 40% of its annual sales come from international markets , while its manufacturing operations in Puebla and Monterrey help optimize costs and delivery times.
Vargas also identified the challenges the company has faced and continues to face in its international operations. One of the main challenges is the cost of freight , particularly for shipments to Central and South America.
To address this situation, MTM transports most of its equipment in containers under the CKD ( Completely Knocked Down ) scheme , meaning disassembled and prepared for later assembly at its distributors’ service centers. Vargas explained that this approach makes better use of the available container space and reduces international shipping costs.
On this point, there is a very specific case that serves to better illustrate the measures MTM has taken in the face of challenges like this. It concerns the UMixer mixing equipment, for which the necessary dimensions to transport at least two units in the same container were considered from the outset of its design .
“This was an analytical process from the very beginning,” the executive noted, emphasizing that the intention was to develop a productive and profitable team, but also to facilitate its shipment to Latin American markets.
For its domestic operations, the company has a network of logistics providers that support equipment distribution. It also has the foreign trade and logistics support of the CIPSA Group.
Outlook for 2027
Currently, MTM has commercial coverage in markets such as Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Chile, in addition to Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
According to Vargas, Peru, Colombia, and Ecuador stand out among the countries where the company identifies growth opportunities, mainly due to their expectations for infrastructure and construction project development.
Current projects include the development of concrete mixers with capacities of 10 and 12 cubic meters (m3), which would complement their eight m3 line. Also planned is the upcoming launch, in 2027, of a new waste compactor.
Mexican manufacturing and demand recovery
The manager explained that during 2026, demand for concrete mixers showed a recovery compared to 2025, driven, according to his assessment, by increased activity in construction and public works projects. However, the waste compactor segment faced greater difficulties due to budget constraints in municipal and state governments, although purchases by private waste collection companies helped sustain business activity.
The company also maintains a manufacturing relationship for the US market under the brand of its former business partner, McNeilus . Meanwhile, since January 2024, it has been directly marketing its products under its own brand in Mexico and other Latin American markets.
Currently, the company has just over 300 employees at its facilities in Puebla and Monterrey, from where it seeks to consolidate its national and international growth.
