
Demand for long-haul, CO₂-free transport solutions in logistics is on the rise. One of the industry’s latest responses comes from Mercedes-Benz Trucks , which unveiled the eActros Lowliner to attendees at the IAA Transportation 2026 trade fair in Hanover, Germany.
This variant joins the company’s lineup of electric tractor units . Series production is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2027, although it will be available for order in 30 European markets and other international markets starting in the third quarter of 2026.
The new model is based on the technological architecture of the eActros 600 , which has been in series production since the end of 2024, but introduces modifications to address operations where the utilization of cargo volume is crucial.
“With the eActros Lowliner, we are bringing the proven and powerful battery and drive technology of the eActros 600 to another important transport segment. The combination of the classic Lowliner vehicle concept and our battery-electric technology approach will enable our customers to perform high-volume transport tasks economically and with zero CO₂ emissions in the future,” said Achim Puchert, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Trucks.
One of the differences compared to the eActros 600 lies in the battery arrangement. While in that model the battery packs are installed transversely under the frame, in the eActros Lowliner they are positioned longitudinally along it , a configuration that requires less space under the vehicle and allows for a lower fifth wheel height.
Two battery configurations
The eActros Lowliner will be available in two configurations. The eActros 400 incorporates two 207 kWh LFP battery packs, for a total installed capacity of 414 kWh and an approximate payload of 24 tons. The eActros 600 uses three packs, totaling 621 kWh, offering around 21 tons of payload and achieving approximately 500 kilometers of range on a full charge.
Both versions use an 800-volt electrical architecture and can be charged via CCS2 at up to 400 kW. Under these conditions, charging from 10% to 80% will take approximately 46 minutes with two batteries and 70 minutes with three.
Starting in the second half of 2027, Mercedes-Benz plans to incorporate the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standard, which will allow charging from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes.
The eActros 400 Lowliner will support up to 700 kW and will be able to go from 10% to 80% in approximately 27 minutes, while the eActros 600 will reach up to 1,000 kW and will require around 29 minutes to complete the same process.
With this solution, Mercedes-Benz estimates that, in environmental terms, eActros models can reduce CO₂ emissions by around 40% over their lifecycle compared to a comparable diesel Actros, considering the average electricity mix in the European Union. This reduction could exceed 80% when the electricity used for charging comes exclusively from renewable sources, over an estimated lifespan of 10 years.
