CMA CGM’s acquisition of FedEx Supply Chain marks a new chapter in the French company’s growth strategy to strengthen its presence in the global logistics business. Through its subsidiary CEVA Logistics , the group reached an agreement to acquire this business unit for an enterprise value of $1.4 billion , a transaction that will significantly expand its contract logistics capabilities in North America and, at the same time, allow FedEx to further focus its efforts on its core transportation business.
According to statements issued by both companies, the transaction adds to CEVA Logistics a business specializing in contract logistics solutions, warehousing, distribution, order fulfillment, reverse logistics, and transportation management, with a strong presence in the United States and Canada. The integration will nearly triple CEVA’s capacity in this segment within North America , adding approximately 10,000 employees and a broad operational network that will strengthen its service offerings for clients across multiple industries.
For CMA CGM, the transaction represents a strategic step in its vision to build a comprehensive logistics platform that complements its maritime, land, and air operations. Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and CEO of CMA CGM Group, stated that “the acquisition and alliance with FedEx represent an important step in the development of CEVA Logistics and our logistics activities in North America.”
The executive added that “FedEx Supply Chain’s renowned expertise, combined with CEVA’s global presence, will allow us to offer even more agile and innovative logistics solutions to our customers,” highlighting that the experience developed by FedEx Supply Chain and CEVA’s international presence will allow them to respond more quickly to the supply chain needs of their customers.
In addition to the acquisition, both groups agreed to establish a long-term business relationship that will maintain operational ties between the two organizations. As part of these agreements, CMA CGM will become FedEx’s preferred—though not exclusive—ocean freight provider , while both companies will collaborate on certain air freight solutions. According to the press releases, these business agreements will be implemented gradually between 2026 and 2028.
FedEx emphasized that the transaction is part of its strategy to concentrate resources on its global transportation and distribution network, while maintaining an alliance with a world-class logistics operator. Raj Subramaniam, FedEx Chairman and CEO, stated that “this transaction allows FedEx to further focus on its core transportation business, while creating long-term value through its business relationship with CMA CGM.”
The executive added that this collaboration will allow both organizations to offer greater benefits to their customers, leveraging the complementary strengths of each company in transportation and logistics , while FedEx continues to execute its strategy of simplifying and transforming its business portfolio.
The companies reported that the closing of the transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. Once the process is complete, CEVA Logistics will significantly strengthen its presence in the North American contract logistics market, while FedEx will maintain a long-term business relationship with CMA CGM to support certain ocean and air services, consolidating an alliance that both companies consider strategic for the future development of their respective value chains.
