During May 2026, the transportation, communications, postal and storage sector registered an annual drop of 102,005 jobs in Mexico , according to the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE), prepared by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .
According to the survey, the country’s logistics sector reported 3,414,375 jobs in the fifth month of the year , while in May 2025 it was 3,516,380, representing a decrease of 2.9% in the period.

According to the ENOE, in May 2026 the Economically Active Population (EAP) was 62.1 million people , an annual increase of 460,000 people.
By gender, the economic participation rate for women was 45.8% and for men 74.2%. Compared to May 2025, women’s participation was very similar, while men’s decreased by 0.7 percentage points.
The employed population reached 60.4 million people (97.2% of the economically active population), an annual growth of 438,000.
By sector of economic activity, the employed population was distributed as follows: services concentrated 26.8 million people (44.4%); commerce 12 million (19.9%); manufacturing industry 9.8 million (16.2%); agriculture, livestock, forestry, hunting and fishing 6 million (10%); construction 4.9 million (8%); and other economic activities —which include mining, electricity, water and gas supply— 381 thousand (0.6%) in the cycle.
In the reference month, the unemployed population was 1.7 million people , representing an annual increase of 22,000.
The economically inactive population (EIP) was 43 million people , an increase of 949,000 people compared to May 2025.
In May 2026, the underemployed population —people who reported needing and being available to work more hours than their current job demands—was 4.2 million, 40,000 fewer than in May 2025. The underemployment rate stood at 7% of the employed population, a decrease from 7.1% to that recorded in May 2025.
During the cycle, the population employed in informal labor was 33.4 million people and the rate of informal labor was established at 55.2% of the employed population, a percentage higher than the 54.9% of May 2025.
On the other hand, employment in the informal sector was 18.3 million people , which meant 30.3% of the employed population, 1.5 percentage points above that reported in the fifth month of 2025.
According to the ENOE results, in May 2026 employment in Mexico showed growth compared to the same month in 2025; however, there was also an increase in employment in the informal sector.
In the logistics sector, the annual decline has been felt more acutely , indicating a slowdown in the labor market in this industry associated with a slowed Mexican economy.
In response, the logistics industry has shown resilience and continues to be driven by the growth of activities such as e-commerce, which demands more warehousing and transportation services .
