At the launch of Fleet Latam Summit 2025 , specialists agreed that fleet management in Latin America requires rethinking strategies to optimize total cost of ownership (TCO), and they focused on three main areas: savings, safety, and sustainability.
Among the experts were Steven Schoefs, Head of Strategic Relations at Global Fleet – Fleet LatAm; Pascal Serres, Chairman of the Fleet LatAm Advisory Board; and Thierry Merienne, Fleet LatAm expert; who commented that the key to savings is having clear fleet policies, reviewing them periodically, and holding employees accountable for their compliance.
They also commented that telematics is emerging as a tool to strengthen accountability, accompanied by clear policies, preventative maintenance, and sustained driver training. Steven Schoefs also explained that reviewing insurance policies and providers will require greater specialization.
In terms of safety, the plan was to strengthen internal culture with training and campaigns, link safe performance to compensation (including examples of speeding penalties), and add technologies such as speed and braking control, fatigue sensors, and regular testing, in addition to raising unit standards, according to Pascal Serres.
In terms of sustainability , there was a call to define realistic transition plans: selecting hybrid/electric vehicles based on infrastructure and consultation with users, renewing fleets to reduce emissions, promoting CO₂ projects, and strengthening defensive driving. Connectivity helps improve maintenance and reduce accidents, according to Thierry Merienne.
The conclusions of the experts at the roundtables reflected that professionalization and innovation in Latin American mobility depend on a balanced combination of technology, organizational culture, and gradual transition plans toward a safer and more sustainable model.
