Mexico City International Airport (AICM) began remodeling work in Hall B of Terminal 1 (T1) , which is primarily intended for passengers waiting for domestic flights, and starting June 30, it will begin work on the air train area of Terminal 2 (T2) .

“The renovation aims to improve the user experience by installing modern furnishings, safer finishes, and more comfortable spaces. Work in this area will be completed by September 30, 2025,” the AICM detailed in a statement.

He explained that the main actions in Hall B include the remodeling of walls, ceilings, and floors , replacement of lighting and the paging system, and general maintenance of facilities and waterproofing of the roofs.

During the construction work, the area, which covers an area of 4,300 square meters (m2), will be secured for user safety. To ensure service, three temporary lounges (B1, B2, and B3) will be set up at gates 9, 13, and 20, with benches, information screens, and restrooms.

Regarding the Terminal 2 air train area, he indicated that waterproofing and repair or replacement of the flashing (a metal piece used to waterproof critical points such as joints between walls and ceilings, preventing water leaks) on the roof will be carried out.

In addition to cleaning and restoring the white precast concrete interior façade, the project also included replacing ceilings, lighting fixtures, wall painting, signage, removing and replacing the air conditioning unit, replacing the flooring, and restructuring the pedestrian ramp.

The first activities will be carried out within an estimated 35 days , keeping the air train running, while the final three will be carried out in November , during the air train’s scheduled maintenance, to avoid any disruption to users.

It is worth remembering that eight billion pesos (mdp) will be invested in the remodeling of the AICM , resources that will be allocated to the aesthetic and functional redesign, maintenance, and conservation.

These works are being carried out in preparation for the 2026 World Cup, so the new airport infrastructure is expected to be completed between April and May of next year.
