
Last March, there was a 3.1% increase in thefts reported across the Mexican Railway System (SFM) compared to the same period last year, the Railway Transport Regulatory Agency (ARTF) reported , with corn, batteries, and accessories being the most frequently stolen items.
According to the report Pulse of the Mexican Railway System-Security March 2025, the agency detailed that in the third month of the year 388 cases occurred compared to 376 in the same period of 2024 .
He indicated that corn, within the grains, seeds, and their derivatives subgroup, accounted for 55.22% of the total; batteries, which are part of consumer goods, represented 36.36%; and accessories, included in industrial products, 63.77%.

In this regard, the merchandise subgroups reported the following incidents:
- Other industrial products with 18.35 percent.
- Grains, seeds and their derivatives with 17.82 percent.
- Consumer goods with 14.63 percent.
“These three subgroups together represent 50.80% of the total number of theft incident reports,” the agency emphasized in the document.
According to the ARTF, the states with the highest number of railroad robbery reports during that period were:
- Coahuila with 92.
- Guanajuato with 50.
- Aguascalientes with 52.
- Jalisco with 25.
