The most recent figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) indicate that 58.2 million vehicles, both light and heavy, circulate nationwide on highways, roads, and city streets.
Faced with this reality and with the commitment to serve its market, Jugos del Valle – Santa Clara (JDV-SC) maintains a focus on road safety, whose strategy is defined not only within the company, but also in aligning efforts with its transportation providers, as well as the transporters who serve their input suppliers , this as part of the commitment to achieve the highest safety standards for its stakeholders.
Within the framework of the 4th JDV-SC Transport Safety Summit , the panel “Our Vision for Transport” presented the organization’s approach to safety, priority concepts, and the alignment it seeks with the carriers that serve their needs.
Eugenio Domínguez, Supply Chain Director at JDV-SC, emphasized that operations face the challenge of balancing costs with service , and this requires addressing safety with a focus on efficiency, productivity, and customer service.
“When you define what you want, security can enable better and more productive services,” Domínguez emphasized.
Alfredo Fernández, financial director of JDV-SC, stated that they have a three-pronged approach: “ placing safety at the center with our strategic partners ; sharing our growth plan to assess the impact on our production system; and third, aligning investments to become more profitable and secure,” he said.
Road safety challenges are shared globally, as identified by José Quesada, Global Route to Market Safety Director at The Coca-Cola Company , which is why various factors must be addressed, such as organizational decisions that may impact risky operations.
One element that needs to be analyzed is the fatigue that can be generated during employee commutes, which could impact operations on the road. “The third point is the focus on vehicle maintenance, which impacts the standards we achieve,” commented José Quesada, who also suggested that the best global experiences within the Coca-Cola Corporation can be leveraged.
Alejandro Marroquín, CEO of TM Transportes, a member of Trayecto ( ranked 1 in the Top 100 Autotransporte® ), described the importance of working with companies like JDV-SC, which aligns their culture with people at the center; their commitment to investing in safety and technology; and their vision of continuing to grow sustainably and ethically .
Challenges identified
During the forum with its transportation providers, the approach was to promote collaboration to achieve the defined objectives in terms of security, where shared responsibility contributes to these efforts .
Alfonso Vázquez, Logistics Director at JDV-SC, explained that they are working on a plan to improve access to distribution centers (CEDIs) . The goal is to address administrative issues related to the dispatch of units without sacrificing security.
“The savings aren’t in safety, but in the ingenuity that can be achieved,” he emphasized, noting that while there has been progress in unit reception times, work continues to be done to make it more efficient for the benefit of operators.
Eugenio Domínguez shared that efforts are geared toward becoming a Socially Responsible Company (SRC), and that safety must be a hallmark of the Coca-Cola system , with a focus on zero fatalities.
Alejandro Marroquín emphasized that working together allows for greater profitability and operational efficiency. “We must be aware of where we should participate . “
