During the first quarter of 2025 (1Q25), there was a 2.1% decrease in the sale of new cars at dealerships , compared to the same period last year, according to the Simindex report, prepared by SimDataGroup (SDG) in alliance with the Mexican Association of Automobile Dealers (AMDA) .
In the first quarter of 2025 , an average of 46 units were sold per dealership. However, other sectors within the automotive market showed an upward trend, for example, sales of used cars, which increased 4.9% to an average of 14 units .
For their part, public service orders maintained a steady increase for the third consecutive year, with a growth of 1.2% , averaging 368 units . However, the increase was considerably lower than the 9.5% increase recorded in 2024 , the report noted.
The industry’s slowdown coincides with U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of 25% tariffs on imported vehicles and auto parts , aimed at protecting the U.S. auto industry.
