Regarding the variation in the indicators of the manufacturing sector and by subsector, the tanning and finishing of leather and skin, and the manufacture of leather, skin and substitute materials products was the industry that had the largest drop in the physical volume of production, with an annual decrease of 7.4% , and also registered a decrease in employed personnel of 3% annually.
According to the EMIM results, production, hours worked, and wages in the manufacturing industry registered monthly increases, while the number of employed personnel showed a monthly decrease last February.
These figures come in the context of a tariff war by the United States against several countries , which affects various industries in Mexico, specifically through the levying of tariffs on steel and aluminum, as well as on vehicles manufactured in the country that are imported from Mexico. This also creates a tense environment in bilateral trade relations.
The EMIM reports on the main variables associated with employment in the manufacturing sector, and captures quantitative information on employed personnel dependent on the company, employed personnel not dependent on the company, wages, and other indicators, such as manufacturing production, which last February broke a three-month downward trend.
