The cold wave that is hitting the country, with temperatures reaching -15°C in some regions, has raised alarms in the auto transport sector . This phenomenon brings with it snow, rain and a marked drop in temperature that affects both logistics operations and the safety of operators.
Given this scenario, key players in the sector are implementing strategies to minimise risks and ensure compliance with their commitments.
In this regard, Jesús Jasso, general manager of Jasso Logistics , explained how these extreme temperatures have affected the dynamics of their routes .
“We operate in cities such as San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, Toluca and Aguascalientes, and operations are partially halted due to the extreme cold. However, our team is used to adapting to these conditions, working with smaller units and optimizing deliveries,” said Jasso.
He said they are used to moving 10 boxes a day, but due to the cold wave they are handling one or two boxes.
For his part, Juan Carlos Varela, director of the Transportation Division at Palos Garza , stressed that planning and communication with clients are essential in this type of contingency .
“We are coordinating deliveries to avoid risks to both the goods and the safety of operators. Rescheduling allows us to reduce the economic and operational impact of extreme temperatures,” Varela said.
Safety measures on roads
In Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Edgar Zamorano, delegate of the National Chamber of Cargo Transportation (Canacar) , detailed the preventive actions implemented on the communication routes.
“Since early morning, we have been working in coordination with Mexican and U.S. authorities to apply chemicals on international bridges and prevent the formation of ice. In addition, we are in constant communication with our operators so that they take extreme precautions when driving on slippery pavement,” said Zamorano.
According to the National Meteorological Service , which is part of the National Water Commission , the states most affected by the cold wave will be Chihuahua, Sonora, Coahuila, Tamaulipas, Durango, Nuevo León, among others.
In this regard, the trucking sector faces significant challenges due to climatic phenomena . However, the combination of preventive measures, logistical coordination and effective communication with customers and authorities allows the impact to be controlled.
Low temperatures will continue to affect various regions of Mexico in the coming days, so the strategies adopted by companies will be key to ensuring that goods continue to move, even in adverse conditions.
