The National Association of Customs Warehouses (ANAFAC) presented its newly elected Executive Committee yesterday, chaired by Eréndira Hernández, who announced that among her work plan she will seek a modification to the Customs Law so that concessions for this type of infrastructure can have a third extension.
Hernández said that with this they seek to ensure that these types of facilities do not stop receiving cargo, as is the case of two facilities located at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) .
“We are trying to work with the customs authority, because as facilities we have a period and at the moment the continuity of the business ends and we are looking to give continuity and see how we can modify the law so that these facilities do not stop receiving cargo,” he said.
In an interview with T21, he explained that the current concession period is for 20 years with a renewal for the same period.
Alejandra Vega Miranda, vice president of ANAFAC, reiterated that they are seeking “this opening to have an additional extension for the same period to continue with the services.”
“It is a challenge for the association to know how to support our members so that they can have more time to provide their services. At the end of the day, a lot is lost, all the improvements we made to the warehouses, it is a logistics sector that is lost, there are security chambers, some with cold storage, valuable areas, all that infrastructure can no longer be used,” he said.
He insisted that the challenge will be to have greater communication with all the country’s foreign trade players .
For this reason, they will also work on generating synergies with the authorities, chambers and associations, with the aim of making known what the association does, “at the end of the day they do not know the activities we do and we are an important key because we manage the import and export merchandise, we have inventory control, we know the exits and entrances, and we collaborate with all the actors.”
Regarding the expansion of the cargo warehouses at Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) , Eréndira Hernández considered it necessary to have more facilities, so she sees it as positive that the construction is being carried out with private investment.
“The project could possibly be faster because we know all the processes that they (the military) could carry out, and doing it with private initiative and having the capital helps them to advance more,” he said.
He mentioned that due to the presidential decree of the previous six-year term, there was a strong growth in the load at the AIFA, so this new infrastructure is required.
The new Executive Committee elected for the 2024-2026 period of the AFAC is also made up of Thalia López as treasurer, Jesús Casarruvias as secretary, while Jorge Cornejo, Alfredo Arzate, Rolando Valencia, Carlos García and Alejandro Reyes Piña as members.
