Driven by the drop in cargo movement at Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), air cargo transport in Mexico began 2025 with a 5.7% decrease in the volume of merchandise operated last January on an interannual basis.
During the first month of 2025, air cargo totaled 91,555.3 tons transported, up from 97,055.7 tons in January 2024, according to statistics from the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) .
According to the monthly report, AIFA reported traffic of 27,764.5 tons, 6,022.8 tons less, which meant a 17.8% decrease in January compared to the same month in 2024.
Only the airports of Tijuana with 2,958.1 tons, Querétaro with 6,455.5 tons, Guadalajara with 13,715 tons and Mexico City with 19,159.4 tons reported increases during last January.
The AFAC stated that the domestic market went from 30,262.5 tons to 31,144.2 tons, an increase of 2.9% year-over-year.
However, the fall was recorded in the international market, as the mentioned period ended with 60,411.1 tons, 6,382.1 tons less, that is, a 9.6% decrease on an interannual level.
