With more than 20 years in the sector, Grupo Zonte (number 73 in the Top 100 of Autotransporte® ) continues to expand in the United States , a market that requires certifications and operational adaptation.
Javier Abascal, the company’s general manager, told T21 how, starting in 2024, they began the “nice” challenge of expanding imports and exports with the neighboring country; in addition, they obtained the necessary certifications and started with four units destined for that route.
Grow and grow. This is one of the goals for 2025, according to Abascal, who enthusiastically explained that the company is looking to consolidate itself in the US market, “increase its clients and number of trips . ”
But the road has not been easy. Like most companies in the sector, they have faced road insecurity , a shortage of operators and an uncertain economy.
“We supply products to the entire Republic, and within the Republic there are areas that are more dangerous than others. Changing our logistics, adjusting schedules and creating strategies to mitigate the issue of insecurity has been a very important challenge,” Abascal said.
Insecurity remains a challenge for the trucking sector. According to the company Overhaul , during 2024 “84% of robberies to transporters in Mexico involved violence ”, while the central and southeastern regions experienced the highest percentage of robberies, with 78%, with 87% of all robberies concentrated in just 10 states .
Abascal also commented that the company, which has a total fleet of 787 units , is facing difficulties in hiring operators. To counter this, they established an operator school.
“Four or five years ago we started training operators, we created the Operator Development Centre and it has been a success,” said Abascal. He also mentioned that the training lasts between four and five months.
Zonte Group operates through three brands : Zonte Auto Transport, Ilhuilcamina Auto Transport , and Torres Land Transport .
For the next five years, the goal is to reach 500 more units and consolidate its presence in both national and international markets.
“Our market is definitely the national one, we know that the international market, you already told me the United States, we are going to grow in it, but the most important thing for us is the national market,” added Abascal.
The future of the sector will be marked by regulation, safety and competitiveness of land transportation , factors that will continue to define the evolution of the industry in Mexico and the United States.
Abascal emphasized that the company’s most important asset is its people , highlighting the team’s commitment as the key to success.
