Hidalgo, Nuevo León and Guanajuato showed the best performance in terms of economic activity by federal entity in the third quarter of 2024, with growth of 5.9% , 4% and 2.7% , respectively, at a quarterly rate, according to information from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .
According to the Quarterly Indicator of State Economic Activity (ITAEE) , which offers an overview of the economic evolution of the country’s states, San Luis Potosí with an increase of 2.6% , Mexico City and Sinaloa, each with an increase of 1.8% , were also among the entities with optimal performance in their economic activity during said period.
Meanwhile, the entities that showed contractions in the third quarter of last year were Campeche with 5.1% , Durango with 3.2% , Quintana Roo with 2.4% , Tabasco with 1.5% , and Colima with a decrease of 1.3 percent .
At an annual rate, Zacatecas with 7.5% , Oaxaca with 6.3% , Nuevo León with 5.8%, Puebla with 5.5% , Durango and Guanajuato, each with 5.3% , also reported significant progress in their economic activity.
Economic activity by sectors
According to the Inegi indicator, in the agricultural sector 23 entities showed growth in the third quarter of the year compared to the previous period. In this sense, Zacatecas had an increase of 28.6% , followed by Hidalgo with 27.9% , Mexico City with 26.6% , Baja California Sur and Michoacán, each with 16.8 percent .
In turn, in the industrial sector , the states that had the best performance in this period were Oaxaca with an increase of 14.4% ; Guanajuato with 9.8% , Nuevo León with 8.9% , Veracruz with 8.6% , Durango with 7.7% and Puebla with 7.2 percent .
In services , during the third quarter of 2024, the growth of Tamaulipas stood out with an increase of 4.4% , Zacatecas and Puebla each with 4.2% , Coahuila with 4.1% , and Michoacán and Yucatán with 3.9% in each case .
According to the Quarterly Indicator of State Economic Activity, the agricultural industry has boosted the economy of at least 23 states in the country, which would mean an advance in primary activities in Mexico.
It should be remembered that these figures come after inflation fell in the first half of 2025 , reaching 3.69% annually, which has allowed for a moderate January slope and has impacted on a better performance of the Mexican economy.
