VERACRUZ, VER.- The Mexican Association of Shipping Agents (Amanac) inaugurated the 29th Annual Congress of Shipping Agents today with a clear message: in crucial moments like the ones the world is currently experiencing, maritime transport serves as the bridge that unites continents and generates economic and social development for countries.
In this regard, Fernando Con, president of Amanac, indicated that shipping agents are more committed than ever to addressing the challenges posed by maritime freight transport , such as digitalization to streamline processes, as well as sustainability in maritime activities that seek to reduce the carbon footprint.
“This evolution (of the maritime-port sector) is an example of our ability to adapt and innovate,” said Fernando Con in his inaugural address.
For her part, Rocío Nahle, governor of Veracruz, highlighted the importance of maritime transport in large-scale public projects, such as the construction of the Dos Bocas refinery, which she led in recent years during her tenure as head of the Ministry of Energy during the six-year term of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
In his turn, Alejandro Malagón, president of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers (Concamin) , indicated that although customs in Mexico require continuous improvement, he highlighted the work that the current head of the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM) , Rafael Marín Mollinedo, has been doing to modernize its processes.
“They’ve had collapses that may bother us, but they’re revamping themselves. Customs must become the strongest link in the value chain,” he stated.
The 29th Amanac Annual Congress will be held in Veracruz from October 8 to 11, 2025 , under the motto “Maritime transport in an interconnected economy.”
The event brings together leading business leaders, port terminal leaders, shipping company representatives, authorities, and academics to discuss the challenges and prospects of maritime trade and logistics in a complex global environment.
