In November 2024, light vehicle sales in Mexico reached 147,971 units, which meant an increase of 14.3% compared to the same month last year, but also places it as the best record of the last 83 months, only surpassed by December 2017, according to data from the Administrative Registry of the Light Vehicle Automotive Industry (RAIAVL)  of the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

The agency also reported that during the first 11 months of the year, automobile sales totaled 1,350,362 cars , which represented an increase of 10.7% compared to the same period in 2023.

Among  the most prominent brands in the year-to-date  are  Nissan with 17% of the market, followed by  General Motors  with 13.8% ,  Volkswagen  with 11.8% , and Toyota with 8.2% , revealed in their report the  Mexican Association of Automobile Distributors (AMDA)  and the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA).

Other brands such as KIA with 7% and Mazda with 6.7% also performed well in vehicle sales during this period.

Meanwhile, Asian firms showed variable performance . In this sense, the one that registered the biggest drop in sales during November 2024 was the Chinese Chirey , with a drop of 34.1% , reporting 2,054 units against those sold in the same month last year.

Japanese Honda also had a 9.3% decrease in vehicle sales , with 4,502 cars compared to 4,962 sold in November 2023.

Jetour  sold 188 units, which represented a 42% drop compared to the 324vehicles it sold in the eleventh month of last year.

With these figures, the Mexican automobile industry is making progress in its recovery , after a fall last September and an upturn in light vehicle sales in October, reaching 122,051 new units.

According to data from Inegi, November was the best month so far this year for car sales ; in addition, the eleventh month of this year was the best for the same month since 2016, when 154,779 vehicles were sold.

These results also occur in the context of a new extension  of the decree for the regularization of imported used vehicles , colloquially known as  chocolate cars , which was extended until  September 30, 2026 .
