Almost a year after the UPS Boeing 767-300 landed for the first time at Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) , from Worldport, the global air hub of the American company in Louisville, Kentucky, air operations at this location in Mexico have boosted the company’s volumes and are expected to continue growing.
According to data from the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) , during the first half of 2024, the AIFA was positioned as the airport with the greatest growth in volume in cargo handling in the country, moving 222 thousand 654.9 tons, of of which 19 thousand 613.7 tons were operated by UPS .
At the end of August 2023, the presidential decree of the federal government came into force in which air cargo lines were forced to move their operations from the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) to another airport facility, so UPS moved to AIFA.
Adriel Mateos, UPS Customs Manager, highlighted that the company connects the entire country by land and air , so AIFA adds value to its services by being close to the main industrial zones.
In an interview with T21, he assured that his first year at the AIFA “has been a great experience because it is an airport with other capabilities (compared to the AICM).”
He added that they are meeting the needs of their clients, even within the company, that is, meeting the needs of their collaborators and employees.
Given this encouraging panorama, he assured that in the last year their import volume grew by 17% and export volume by 6% , thanks to the fact that they maintain their flight frequencies from Monday to Friday.
“We are exponentially increasing the growth we have had because much more volume will come for us, it has been a great change,” said the manager.
At the end of last July, UPS announced that it had entered into an agreement to acquire Estafeta , a Mexican company in parcel services and logistics projects, an action that is a key piece in its strategy to expand its presence in Mexico.
