August 11, 2025 was a historic day for the Faculty of Commerce, Administration and Social Sciences of the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas (UAT) , in Nuevo Laredo , when after years of planning, the Bachelor’s degree in Freight Transportation , presented last March, received its first generation, made up of 100 students distributed in morning and afternoon shifts.
“Today we kicked off,” explained René Adrián Salinas Salinas, director of the school, who emphasized that the goal is to train professionals capable of managing freight transportation with an academic level comparable to that of any other university program.
The academic plan, designed in collaboration with the industry, included dual training in which Nuevo Laredo transportation companies actively participated, teaching classes and hosting students for internships.
“We want to bring the experience of companies into the classroom, and for the knowledge generated daily in the sector to be transformed into bibliographies and curriculum documents,” said Salinas.
Most of the students were recent high school graduates, although some were also seeking to retrain their professional profiles.
All are trained to start their own businesses, join transportation and logistics corporations , or provide specialized services to small and medium-sized fleets operating in Mexico.

Since this is a unique program , it was necessary to clearly explain that this was not a course for operators, but rather a degree designed to train transport managers.
The sector’s interest supported the project; companies and associations expressed their intention to join as strategic allies. Salinas expressed confidence that the graduates will be able to provide solutions and specialized knowledge to thousands of small and medium-sized transportation businesses that lack internal departments to address management issues .
“This degree program will be a hotbed of talk. It will be a breeding ground for talent for an industry that is an economic engine for the region and the country,” Salinas concluded.
