The Lázaro Cárdenas National Port System Administration (Asipona) reported this Friday that the partial blockade of port access, which began on Wednesday, September 3, in the area known as Torres 08, has ended following dialogue with dissatisfied transporters .
According to the official statement, the outflow of goods never stopped , and coordination with customs and terminals minimized the impact. The agency reiterated its commitment to constant communication and the continuity of operations at the port.
The blockade highlights, once again, the vulnerability of Mexican ports, which have been the target of blockades and have had serious repercussions on companies’ logistics chains.
And it’s no wonder. The port of Lázaro Cárdenas ranks second in container handling on the Mexican Pacific coast and first in automobiles .
Likewise, the interruption, although brief, exposes a trucking sector that is experiencing situations at the limit of its capacity , being a link without which no port strategy can be sustained.
While Asipona emphasized that the outflow was never interrupted, simply limiting the entry of units generates operating costs , delays in the supply chain, and a climate of uncertainty for shipping companies, terminals, and foreign trade users.
These types of incidents can erode the port’s competitiveness compared to other logistics hubs in the region, especially when global customers prioritize certainty and guaranteed delivery times over all other factors. Traffic congestion, customs processes, and now social blockades are all pieces of a puzzle that threatens to slow the port’s consolidation as a leading maritime hub .
The challenge lies not only in resolving current situations, but also in building a port governance system capable of preventing conflicts and articulating real-time solutions. Asipona, by emphasizing its willingness to engage in dialogue, implicitly recognizes that the port is not an island and that its success depends on coordination with carriers, local authorities, and private stakeholders.
