TDR overcomes market challenges to achieve positive results

Among the challenges faced was an increase in operating costs, which hovered around 40% during the first half of the year.

In the first quarter of 2025, Mexico’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew 0.2% compared to the same period in 2024, according to figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) . This meager increase comes amid expectations that it would remain in negative territory, according to various analysts.

Alejandro Saldaña , chief economist at Grupo Financiero Ve Por Más (BX+) , stated that although his outlook for 2025 is for growth of just 0.5% , the positive aspect of this scenario is that it will not fall into recession.

In this uncertain scenario, TDR Transportes ( a member of the Top 100 Autotransporte® ) managed to maintain a solid revenue-generating operation during the first part of the year, where it recorded progress month after month, and also achieved a progressive increase in total kilometers and tractor-trailer revenue per day, “this performance reflected an improvement in our operational efficiency, productivity per unit and fleet utilization,” commented Tatiana Robles , commercial director of TDR Transportes.

Tatiana Robles.

The board acknowledged that they have faced various challenges, such as rising fuel and toll costs. ” These items represented more than 40% of our operating costs , but despite this, we managed to maintain control of costs per kilometer (CPK),” Robles added.

In this situation, TDR’s operation focused on making the number of empty kilometers ( dedhead ) efficient, which, although maintained, required through optimization and increasing the use of tractor-trailers , which has remained above 90% in this first part of the year .

According to data from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) , the average age of cargo vehicles is over 20 years old . In the case of TDR, a disciplined focus on vehicle renewal has been maintained, in line with fleet growth.

Currently, with 430 tractor-trailers, the average fleet age is 2.3 years , and the goal is to have a modern infrastructure with the latest generation of safety features, “to which we must add fuel efficiency and maintenance costs ,” added Tatiana Robles.

In addition, the modern fleet contributes to the company’s sustainability focus, reducing polluting emissions with every kilometer traveled , and also fulfilling this effort with greater fuel efficiency.
