After winning the international Young Logistics Professionals (YLP) Award competition on the American continent, Montserrat Llarena Jiménez, manager of Maritime and Air Operations at Wideline, a freight forwarding company, will face the last step in seeking the world medal in the field during the FIATA World Congress (FWC) , which will take place from October 6 to 10, 2025 in Hanoi, Vietnam, where the international winner of this award, which highlights the new professional values ​​that participate in international trade , will be revealed .

Engineer Montserrat Llarena will represent Mexico, the American continent, as well as the Mexican Association of Freight Forwarders (Amacarga) and the Federation of National Associations of Freight Forwarders and International Logistics Operators of Latin America and the Caribbean (Alacat) .

Llarena Jiménez won first place in the competition of the International Federation of Freight Forwarders’ Associations (FIATA) , which represents the global freight forwarding and logistics industry, with her project that combined maritime and land transport and called Not the shortest route—The smartest: strategic thinking in modern logistics .

For this event, each participant presented a plan that included two scenarios: one for imports and one for exports, both of which had to be multimodal, meaning they used more than one type of transportation.

In Llarena’s case, the import project involved transporting a production line from Argentina to Querétaro , Mexico, which required specialized equipment; while the export project involved transporting pistachios from California, United States, through Mexico to various destinations in Europe.

Wideline, headed by Ernesto Arévalo Schoedl, and founded just five years ago, has provided a platform for professionals from diverse fields, and its support for young talent has been an important part of this succes.

For the October competition, FIATA established that nominated candidates would have a three-month deadline to write a dissertation in English of between four thousand and six thousand words, focusing on one key import and one key export commodity from their country .

The institution specified that the exhibition represents an opportunity for the candidate to demonstrate a variety of skills and qualities necessary for a successful career in the freight forwarding, logistics, and supply chain sectors.

The presentation was structured around identifying a business problem or opportunity, gathering relevant information about a specific situation, and identifying possible changes or improvements for the benefit of the freight forwarder or the client.

Also, from evaluating information and drawing conclusions, such as determining what actions should be taken and presenting well-founded recommendations with cost analysis, important skills and qualities to be demonstrated include innovation and initiative.
