According to metrics from the World Resources Institute (WRI) , the transportation sector is responsible for 29% of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions in Mexico. Considering that the country ranked ninth worldwide in GHG emissions in 2022, TIP Mexico implemented actions a couple of years ago to mitigate its carbon footprint .

To do this, it adopted ESG criteria and in the alliance with Transtex it managed to implement technology that contributes to making fuel consumption more efficient, which results in a reduction in polluting emissions.

To date, more than five thousand boxes owned by TIP (new and used) have Transtex equipment that favors aerodynamics. In seven years, due to the devices, 12,595 metric tons of CO2 have been stopped from being emitted, according to Valentín. González, director of New Business Development for Transtex in Latin America, in an interview with T21.

For his part, Edgar Aragón, Director of Marketing and PR for TIP México, indicated that the partnership with Transtex aims for its clients to adopt and be aware of the implications that freight transportation has on the generation of GHG.

“Beyond the fact that the equipment will be generating savings of 5% in fuel, what is important is the positive environmental impact, in this sense customers adopt it as a good practice ,” defined Aragón.

The representative of TIP Mexico announced that in the short term the company plans to implement the technology in a greater number of boxes, “surely in the future some colleagues from other companies in the industry will adopt the tool.”

Valentín González said that unlike the millions of dollars that original equipment manufacturers (OEM) allocate to perfecting the aerodynamics of vehicles, in the case of allied equipment this practice is not so recurring.

“The geometry of the dry box has remained the same for many years because the current design is the most practical for transporting as much merchandise as possible. In that sense, we seek to make the shape of the box more aerodynamic so that the engine can drag with ease. lower resistance, otherwise the investment in vehicle aerodynamics is detracted if the allied team generates an opposite effect. In this sense, improving the aerodynamics of the allied team allows the engines to have better performance,” said González.

Finally, Edgar Aragón stated that the company is aware of its role and contribution to the reduction of GHGs, which is why it is committed to adding initiatives, together with its clients, to mitigate emissions.

El cargo TIP México Bets on Environmentally Beneficial Equipment apareció primero en T21.

At the Expo Proveedores in Monterrey, Nuevo León, trailer manufacturer Fruehauf introduced its latest product, a 57-foot trailer that offers the same benefits as its 2.0 model.

The 57-foot trailer is constructed with composite materials, featuring a two-position sliding skate frame, screwable and supported on six bridges, equipped with Fruehauf Jost H450 skates, a Transtex top kit, Michelin tires, and Ampro aluminum rims.

“Nuevo León is one of the strongest states in terms of the transportation industry, accounting for 25% of the total market share of registered units last year according to data from the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT),” commented Fruehauf CEO Leandro Radomile, explaining the reason for the product launch in this region.

Regarding the 57-foot trailer, it is equipped with a Vantraax sliding suspension with ZMD technology. ZMD technology is a patented zero-maintenance damping system that eliminates the need for an external component such as a shock absorber. Instead, the damping function of the suspension has been incorporated into the air chambers of the suspension. The unique design of the ZMD exclusive air chamber offers an all-in-one suspension damping and trailer isolation package without adding additional components to the air chamber.

With such equipment, maintenance costs for shock absorbers are reduced, tire lifespan is extended, driving quality is enhanced, and cargo protection is improved.

“As part of our commitment to Mexican transporters, we aim to offer high-quality products with durable, innovative components, such as Hendrickson’s patented ZMD system, which represents a significant reduction in maintenance costs and increased unit uptime,” added Radomile.

From Fruehauf’s Commercial Director Rodrigo Arcos’s perspective, “We work closely with suppliers who can offer not only quality components but are also constantly innovating, a value we share with them since the dry van line has seen many improvements in recent years culminating in the well-known 2.0 dry van.”
