In July 2026, prices in the transportation, postal and storage sector in Mexico registered an increase of 0.70% compared to last June and also had an annual increase of 4.19% , due to the increase in the cost of inputs and fuels, mainly, during the period, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) announced .

The upturn in the cycle reflected the advance in inflation shown by the tertiary activities of the Mexican economy – which include services such as education, tourism and logistics – in the seventh month of the year, with a monthly growth of 0.34% and an annual growth of 4.14% , according to the National Producer Price Index (INPP).

According to the INPP, air cargo companies  lowered their prices, showing decreases of 1.50% month-on-month and 2.51% year-on-year. This decline stemmed from a market slowdown following the conclusion of the World Cup, due to reduced freight traffic and uncertainty surrounding international trade disputes.

In July 2026, the  airport usage fee increased by 1.62% compared to the previous June, while the year-on-year increase was 3.46%. The main reasons for this increase include operating and infrastructure costs , higher passenger traffic due to the World Cup, and the start of the holiday season.

The air cargo loading and unloading subsector   saw a 0.01% monthly increase in costs. On an annual basis, companies in the sector paid 3.08% more.

Rail freight rates remained unchanged in July 2026 compared to June. Year-on-year, however, they increased by 1.18 percent. This subsector remained virtually stable due to the sustained growth of industries such as automotive and manufacturing, which maintained demand for rail transport.

Maritime freight transport grew 0.07% month-on-month and increased 1.86% year-on-year, reflecting relatively contained inflation, although geopolitical risks, such as the conflict in the Middle East, remain. Meanwhile, port usage fees rose 0.64% month-on-month and 5.58% year-on-year.

Prices for  general freight trucking accelerated to 0.42% monthly in July 2026 and 3.84% year-on-year. This mode of transport has been pressured by the rise in the cost of petroleum-derived inputs, such as diesel, and tires. Added to this is the increase in toll costs for trucks and buses , with a 7.59% annual rise, although the monthly measurement showed no change.

Customs agencies  and other freight forwarding services increased the price of their service by 0.08% monthly and 0.33% annually.

Parcel and courier services  saw a 0.42% increase in July 2026 compared to June, while the annual rate rose by 4.50%. Meanwhile,  cargo storage costs increased by 1.25% month-on-month and had an annual increase of 2.57%.

The conflict in the Middle East, fleet maintenance, the review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) , the increase in fuel prices, and other factors have influenced the increase in the costs of the country’s logistics services.

According to the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment and Technology (Comce) Northeast chapter , between 2015 and 2025, the costs of transporting and storing goods in Mexico increased by 72%, showing an upward adjustment in the price of these services.

Mexico’s economic activity is expected to rebound both monthly and annually in February 2026, driven by growth in services such as trade, transportation, and storage.

The  Timely Indicator of Economic Activity (IOAE) , compiled by the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) , anticipated a slight monthly increase of 0.1% in Mexican economic activity during the period. On an annual basis, the IOAE also registered strong performance, with a rise of 1.2%.

By economic activity groups, an annual increase of 1.9% is expected in the tertiary sector (which includes services such as commerce, transport and storage, communications, education and health), and a decrease of 1.9% in the secondary sector (manufacturing and construction).

The estimates include 95% confidence intervals and correspond to seasonally adjusted figures, Inegi indicated.

On a monthly basis, the Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE) is projected to grow by 0.1% . Tertiary activities are expected to increase by 0.2%, while secondary activities are projected to remain unchanged by February 2026.

According to KPMG , a consulting firm, Mexico is expected to have a mixed economic outlook , with opportunities in diversifying trade relationships, strengthening strategic logistics projects, and developing key industries such as manufacturing; however, a moderate slowdown with inflationary pressures is anticipated .

This stems from a global economy facing geopolitical risks and trade adjustments that create uncertainty for global growth.
