The National Association of Vehicle Tracking and Protection Companies (ANERPV) held its first General Assembly , where key advances in logistics security, the professionalization of the sector and the implementation of new technologies were discussed.

Luis Enrique Villatoro Martínez, president of ANERPV, highlighted the three main axes that will guide the work of the association: professionalization, communication and alliances.

Regarding professionalization , he pointed out that various certifications are being promoted to strengthen the skills of the logistics security sector, as well as courses that protect the industry’s knowledge.

For the communication strategy , webinars and discussions have been held to strengthen ANERPV’s presence in the sector, in addition to a visibility strategy in the media, professional networks and podcasts, highlighting the impact of the sector on the country’s security and logistics.

For the last pillar, the development of Centinela 2.0 was presented , a key update in the ANERPV monitoring and tracking system, which will allow a better connection between partners and authorities, facilitating immediate response to emergencies, adding that it will be linked with the National Guard and various state authorities .

On the other hand, ANERPV has strengthened its collaboration with different government and state entities to improve transportation security, mainly authorities from the State of Mexico, Puebla, Michoacán, Guanajuato and Jalisco , which represent a high incidence of robberies.

“Approximately 60% of theft incidents are recorded between the State of Mexico and Puebla. With the addition of the National Guard, we are covering practically 80% of the events. This allows us to provide a better operational response,” Villatoro said.

Strategic alliances

In addition, ANERPV signed new agreements with Aleatica and the National Association of Importers and Exporters of the Mexican Republic (ANIERM) , reinforcing its commitment to logistical security in the country.

Antonio Lorenzo Ramos, Director of Asset Security at Aleatica, emphasized the importance of this alliance:

“Since our birth in 2018, we have been committed to smart and sustainable mobility. Therefore, partnerships with governments and specialized associations are essential, since safety is a joint effort,” he said.

He highlighted that the company operates in seven countries, in Mexico it manages the most important portfolio of road assets, with 264 million vehicle crossings per year and 373 km of roads operated , so this agreement will allow the exchange of information in real time, using Aleatica’s geolocation platforms, control centers and BETZ-type cameras, to immediately detect and communicate any emergency or incident.

For his part, Gerardo Tajonar, president of ANIERM, highlighted the importance of having tracking and certification systems in the supply chain , especially in the current global context.

“On behalf of ANIERM, we represent companies that depend on a comprehensive security chain. Current times require demonstrating traceability and evidence in each import and export operation,” he said.

Barcodes have been an essential tool for identifying products, managing inventories and improving logistics processes. However, in the face of current challenges, this traditional system has begun to fall short. Companies have therefore begun a transition to a new, more robust standard,  the so-called 2D code, which can be scanned at the point of sale, contains more information and is dynamic.

In this regard, Juan Pablo Gómez , Director of Product and Services Development at GS1 Mexico , highlighted that this code allows for storing a greater amount of data, such as batch numbers, expiration dates and other key information about the products, providing greater advantages in terms of security, traceability and logistical efficiency.

By 2027, companies around the world have committed to implementing 2D codes in parallel with traditional barcodes, with the goal of making a complete transition by 2028.

In this regard, Alejandro Trejo, Director of Associate Development at GS1 Mexico, pointed out that this transition not only implies a technological change , but also an evolution in the way we interact with products, brands and consumers.

“This coexistence between traditional barcodes and two-dimensional codes will not be an immediate change, but it will be a crucial step towards the future. Adoption will allow for a more intelligent and efficient integration of information, ensuring that products reach the consumer with the highest standards,” he said.

Cargo transportation in Mexico is the fundamental pillar of logistics both in the domestic market and in foreign trade. With more than 41,223 companies involved in this activity, it is crucial to have tools that adapt to different fleet sizes and that offer safety and efficiency.

Galán adds that simplicity is one of the great attributes of AI applied to transport. “Time is the most valuable factor in any operation, and the ability to act quickly through AI can make the difference between a crisis and an effective resolution.”

Freightliner 3.0 includes technological advances such as weapon detection both inside and outside the cabin, anti-jammer systems , and integration with Detroit Assurance , an ecosystem that reinforces driver safety in real time. “We want operators to feel protected, not monitored, and that is exactly what we have achieved,” adds Galán. “We have even developed a function where AI can communicate with operators via a phone call, helping them in critical moments and reinforcing that feeling of protection.”

Alpizar reinforces this vision by mentioning that one of the great benefits of Freightliner Link 3.0 is its ability to eliminate the “human factor” in certain aspects of monitoring, where personnel limitations make it difficult to maintain constant surveillance. “With AI, it is like having a complete team of people monitoring the operators’ path, identifying risks and acting proactively.”

In addition to improving safety, the platform also helps to optimize driver behavior. “It’s not about chasing the driver,” says Alpizar, “it’s about improving their driving technique, correcting habits such as distractions, sudden braking or lane departures, which results in safer and more efficient operation, and also generates savings in fuel consumption.”

Given the initial resistance of some operators to dashcams and other solutions, Galán emphasizes that when drivers experience the benefits of these technologies, they quickly become their advocates. “In crisis situations, such as an accident, these tools can be the key to delineating liability and protecting the operator from an irresponsible third party,” he explains.
