During his conference, Carlos Cota , Vice President of Revenue at Tecnomotum, explained how the industry has moved from traditional tracking systems to operational intelligence models, where data must be processed in real time.

“A customer with a thousand trucks generated a million alerts a month. It’s humanly impossible to handle them all. AI should help us filter that information and act only on what’s truly relevant,” he said.

With that challenge as a starting point, Tecnomotum developed ANIA , its artificial intelligence neural agent, capable of correlating information, analyzing operational patterns, detecting anomalies and activating automatic actions such as engine stops, route redefinition or activation of security protocols.

Beyond hardware : adoption as the true differentiator

In its space within the event, Tecnomotum showcased an immersive experience, where operators could experience real-life scenarios: distractions, fatigue, attempted robberies, and critical situations inside and outside the cabin.

The goal was not only to demonstrate technology, but to show how perception changes when the operator understands what AI is for .

Several participants shared their impressions:

“I used to think the camera was for pointing out mistakes, but now I see that it’s for helping us.”

“AI alerts me when I’m too tired. It works.”

This type of feedback points to a cultural change that Tecnomotum has promoted: that technology is not seen as punishment , but as a tool for support.

Cota expressed it this way:

“AI is not meant to replace people, but to give them superpowers.”

The future of transport

Cota also addressed the convergence between generative AI and digital twins , technologies that will allow the simulation of complex logistical scenarios—such as blockades, storms, or port closures—and anticipate the best operational response.

“We will be able to ask the system: what happens if my route floods?, what do I do if my driver has been driving for more than 12 hours or if the brakes indicate a failure?” he explained.

One of Tecnomotum’s differentiating factors is the regionalization of its algorithms , designed to understand the Mexican and Latin American context.

“Our models understand when an operator says ‘the rats came out’ and know that they’re not talking about animals, but about an attempted robbery. The AI has to speak our language,” he commented.

In addition, the company has developed specific functions for the domestic market, such as weapons detection in the cabin , engine shutdowns with automated protocols , and predictive alerts adapted to high-risk routes.

Training: the key to turning technology into results

Tecnomotum emphasized that adoption doesn’t happen on its own. Therefore, it promotes Enlace Freightliner Academy , a continuous training program for operators, monitors, and fleet managers.

The goal is to ensure that teams understand how AI works, how to interpret information, and how to integrate the technology into their daily operations.

For Tecnomotum, the formula is clear: without training, AI is just a tool; with training, it becomes an enabler of efficiency, security, and decision-making .

The message Tecnomotum delivered at Expo Transporte is direct: artificial intelligence is no longer an aspirational concept , but an operational component that allows for preventing incidents , responding to emergencies, and improving productivity.

And its impact is greatest when the technology is adopted, understood, and becomes part of the daily routine of those who manage, monitor, and direct the operation. Motum: More than Artificial Intelligence, real results.

In the panel “Financing for Sustainable Mobility ,” held within the framework of Expo Transporte ANPACT 2025 , Flores indicated that this project is to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the sector, although he did not elaborate on the details.

In this regard, Alejandro Osorio, president of the ANPACT Expo Transport Committee , considered it relevant that resources can be available for the scrapping bonus and that this type of initiative “reaches the grassroots level, the base of the pyramid.”

“What we are looking for is for the carriers who are present here at Expo Transporte ANPACT, who need to renew this fleet, because used vehicles, and especially used imported vehicles that come from the United States, are vehicles that at their age are already scrap metal, they are vehicles that are closely related to emissions and also to the accident rate, and for that, this scrapping bonus could be useful,” Osorio emphasized.

In his presentation, Augusto Trigos, Head of Sales for Volkswagen Trucks and Buses and MAN Trucks and Buses , pointed out that better financial education is needed so that truckers can learn about the benefits offered by the product they are looking for and what type of financing best suits their needs.

The specialist considered that there is still some resistance among business owners in the sector, especially regarding adapting to the modernization of financing, such as the digital signing of contracts, which in some cases those involved still prefer to do in person.

Isabel Studer, president of the Global Sustainability organization , emphasized that it is important to consider the modernization of fleets , since in Mexico the average age is 19 years in the cargo and passenger sectors, and there are even vehicles that reach up to 40 years.

He explained that almost half of the federal fleet is obsolete, and “although some 843,000 units are registered, we know that the real fleet, because it includes all those other vehicles in the states that do not have those federal fleets, reaches 1.6 million vehicles; therefore, more than 800,000 units with state plates do not even have registrations,” which makes it difficult for them to access financing.

He pointed out that the above has an impact on the environment, since, he said, 20% of the country’s total emissions come from the transport sector, largely due to the aging of the vehicle fleet.

With a call for inter-institutional unity and unity among trucking chambers, Enrique Dueñas, president of the National Association of Mexican Crane Businessmen (Agrúas) , considered that professionalization of the sector is necessary to address the current and future challenges demanded by the trucking ecosystem.

At Expo Transporte ANPACT 2025 , he said that the most important thing at this time is to continue strengthening the group he leads, since they have a track record and are recognized by transport organizations and federal and state authorities.

On the technological front, Dueñas asserted that this area must be addressed, “because modernity is catching up with us and we have to keep up with the times we are living in.”

In the transport sector, he indicated, they are concerned about the tax issues coming next year, “and we are part of the transport industry, so we also have to take into account what is coming and that next year we are going to have many administrative, tax and fiscal problems, and we have to make the companies profitable in order to comply with the government’s requirements.”

At a conference, Carlos Omar Jiménez, head of the Property and Auto Insurance Business Lines at the Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions (AMIS) , reiterated the willingness to promote the union of the insurance sector with the transportation sector, so that the citizen is the beneficiary.

Despite the challenges that lie ahead for 2026, the executive is committed to unity throughout the transport ecosystem to bring together the actors involved, such as the owner-truck driver, transport companies and the insurer.

Raúl Barrón Ortega, president of the National Crane Committee of the National Chamber of Freight Transportation (Canacar) , echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the unity of the industry to promote legality and build a new national agenda that enhances competitiveness and confidence in this sector.

He recalled that the National Crane Committee presented the opinion on the reform to the Law of Roads and Bridges, and the opinion on the reform of the regulations.

“I would like us to join together and, taking advantage of the fact that this is still the topic of government consultation, to join together as a union to present these proposals, to return them together and present them as a bloc,” he stressed.

GUADALAJARA, JAL. – In a sector accustomed for years to hearing promises about technology, Motum demonstrated at Expo Transporte ANPACT 2025 that artificial intelligence has moved beyond mere rhetoric to become a measurable impact. Through the evolution of Enlace Freightliner 3.0 and the Artificial Intelligence Neural Agent (ANIA) , the Mexican company presented real results in safety, efficiency, and productivity for the country’s fleets.

As part of the event, Motum launched an exclusive Experience, designed specifically for the country’s leading fleets, located in a VIP area at a hotel near the exhibition venue. There, guests were able to experience the new generation of connectivity firsthand, view hard data, see real-world case studies, and hear testimonials from clients who have already achieved significant improvements in safety and operations.

Pedro Rivera , CEO of Tecnomotum, recalled that the alliance between Tecnomotum and Freightliner Mexico began ten years ago, in 2015, with the first Enlace.

“The challenge was clear: to improve the user experience and leverage the potential of vehicle information,” he explained.

Next came Enlace 2.0 in 2019, which unified tracking, telematics, and predictive maintenance functions into a single platform; and now Enlace 3.0, which adds a two-way camera (Driver Coach) and an artificial intelligence system called ANIA (Artificial Intelligence Neural Agent) .

“With ANIA, we can combine information from the truck, its surroundings, and the cameras to perform predictive analysis. We want to warn before an event occurs and thwart a robbery before it happens,” Rivera emphasized.

ANIA integrates data from multiple sources, such as traffic, weather, security alerts, telemetry, and driver behavior, to provide real-time analysis and automated or assisted decision-making. The goal, according to Rivera, is to move from reaction to prevention.

“In cases of theft, accidents, or maintenance, our goal is to be proactive first, then proactive, and only reactive at the very end. If you wait to react until your truck has already been stolen, the chances of success decrease every minute,” he asserted.

The system also interacts with authorities such as the National Guard, generating reports of risk zones and critical times to help redirect units and prevent incidents.

For her part, Itzel Alpízar, Freightliner’s Connectivity and Electrification Strategy Manager, stressed that technological evolution only makes sense when it adds real value to the customer.

“We want technology to translate into safety, efficiency, and profitability. Through Enlace 3.0 and our exclusive fault codes and safety systems, we offer accurate information to prevent accidents, theft, or catastrophic failures,” he said.

The executive explained that Enlace Freightliner Academy , also presented at the event, is a digital learning platform that allows operators, analysts, and fleet managers to train themselves independently on topics such as safety, maintenance, best practices, and proper use of technology.

“Technological adoption is key. It’s not enough to have the camera or the telematics; you have to understand how to use it. That’s why we created an academy that professionalizes the end user,” Alpízar pointed out.

Rivera acknowledged that, as with seatbelt use, there is still resistance among drivers to adopting technologies like cameras. However, she asserted that awareness campaigns are yielding results, especially among female drivers, who report feeling safer with video assistance.

“The camera isn’t for surveillance, but for protection. It helps us detect fatigue, distraction, or risky situations. And when used correctly, it saves lives,” the executive emphasized.

To strengthen this adoption, Tecnomotum works with fleets, insurers, and Freightliner distributors on training and awareness programs.

“It’s no use having technology if you don’t use it. The difference between an efficient fleet and one in crisis can be the correct adoption of these tools,” Rivera stated.

Based in Orizaba, Veracruz, Tecnomotum defines itself as a 100% Mexican company driven by artificial intelligence and local talent.¿

His vision, Rivera explained, is to turn Orizaba Valley into a global hub for innovation and technological development for the transportation industry.

“Our dream is bigger than technology. We want every kilometer to count, not only to go further, but to leave a better path behind,” he said.

GUADALAJARA, JALISCO – Mexico is burdened with aging fleets, saturated routes, a shortage of drivers , and increasing pressure to migrate to cleaner technologies. All of this is happening simultaneously, in a context where the energy transition is no longer a futuristic aspiration, but an immediate challenge for cities and the trucking industry, according to experts.

That is the starting point for the discussions that various international and national voices have put on the table: how to achieve sustainable transport without losing sight of the operational , financial and social reality of the country.

The setting for the discussion: Expo Transporte ANPACT 2025 and its panel “Modernization of road transport” , where specialists commented that one of the deepest problems is that Mexico has an unequal fleet.

Panel: Modernization of road transport, Expo Transporte ANPACT 2025.

While private tractor-trailers average between eight and 10 years of age, the federal public service fleet reaches 19 years, with units that continue to circulate under obsolete emissions standards, explained Jesús Padilla, founding president of the Mexican Association of Transportation and Mobility (AMTM) .

This gap impacts everything: pollution, fuel consumption, costs, and safety. A modern vehicle can pollute up to 90% less and consume about 20% less fuel than one manufactured two decades ago, explained Leonardo Gómez, executive president of the National Association of Private Transportation (ANTP) .

But technology alone doesn’t solve anything. Another structural problem is financial capacity. Renewing fleets, adapting infrastructure, or migrating to clean energy requires resources that are currently insufficient, the panelists explained.

One of the participants was the Swedish ambassador to Mexico, Gunnar Alden, who stressed that “investment is very important” and highlighted the relevance of cooperation between companies, government, academia and civil society to promote sustainable transportation solutions.

He pointed out that it is necessary to create collaboration centers , like those that exist in Sweden, where these four sectors work together in the search for comprehensive solutions.

Based on the experience of public transportation, it is recognized that Mexico would need at least 100 billion pesos annually to maintain operating systems, renew units, and sustain fares that do not affect the user, Padilla said.

And that’s where another dilemma arises: governments promote modernization strategies, but budgets don’t keep pace . Meanwhile, systems deteriorate, maintenance becomes more expensive, and service quality declines. Users lose mobility, and cities lose competitiveness, Padilla explained.

These challenges are compounded by the climate emergency. Electromobility has gone from being a trend to a necessity, but it comes with new questions: Where should the energy come from? What should be done with the batteries once they reach the end of their lifespan? How can we prepare cities where there is no longer space for charging stations or parking areas?

It’s a technical problem, but also an environmental one. Johanna Wysluch, director of projects: sustainable cities and transport, German cooperation agency GIZ , pointed out that if the transition is not accompanied by circular economy schemes (recycling, second life batteries, materials recovery), Mexico could face a new type of pollution .

Wysluch said that more than 1,800 tons of lithium-ion batteries have already been recovered through initiatives supported by international cooperation.

Digitization appears as an additional layer to the problem. Without data, there is no planning. Without planning , there is no efficiency. The experience in Oaxaca and the State of Mexico, where more than 800 routes were digitized using the General Transportation Feeds Specification (GTFS), showed that information can change how citizens access transportation. However, most of the country still operates without traceability, without clear frequencies, and without unified platforms, which limits any attempt at modernization, according to Wisluch.

In freight transport , another major debate revolves around the double semi-trailer. Although figures support the claim that it is the vehicle “that pollutes the least per ton-kilometer transported” and one of the safest, legislative discussion persists. For the industry, the real problem is not the vehicle itself, but the lack of modernization and training: a modern double semi-trailer requires more technology, more safety measures, and better-trained operators, according to Gómez.

“The double semi-trailer is the vehicle that pollutes the least,” said Gómez.

In the end, the panelists agreed that Mexico’s transportation problems are systemic. They cannot be solved with a single decree, a single technology, or a single operational change. They require coordination between industry, government, and international cooperation . They require financing, effective legislation, and clean energy.

The challenges are an aging fleet , a shortage of operators, insufficient infrastructure, limited financing, lagging regulation, and an energy transition that is moving faster than the institutional capacity to keep up.

He acknowledged that in the past, vehicles sold by other importers were registered, but clarified that “that part was canceled; there was no progress in opening dealerships,” confirming that the entire current network operates under the brand’s formal structure.

The company currently has 27 sales and service points in the country , with a projection of exceeding 30 units in the coming months.

Heldt stated that, although this type of decision generates nervousness in the industry and among customers, Dongfeng will maintain its offering, network and expansion plans unchanged, and that any technical or commercial adjustments will only be evaluated when definitive information is available.

“We came to stay; we are not going to modify the operation because of a change in the tariff schedule,” he said.

He added that the project to install an assembly plant in Mexico is part of the brand’s comprehensive plan and, in the future, could help mitigate any regulatory adjustments.

Executives emphasized that Dongfeng’s strategy in Mexico is based on three pillars: competitive entry prices, immediate availability of spare parts, and an expanding network.
